Several races after this one, Dave Marcis lost his sponsor, after an
incident that took place here.

He pushed an out-of-gas Bobby Allison to the pits.

"Whaaaa? Losing your sponsor for good samaritanship?"

Yeah. It seems odd, but it happened.

Hey, when your sponsor also finishes second instead of winning because
of your good samaritan act, it's as good a reason as any.

Stacy never paid Marcis (or any of the other owners) anyway, so it was
no loss.

The first NASCAR "spring" race at Pocono. The previous year's VSDM 500
had been the final non-Indy 500 USAC Gold Crown race on pavement; they
had had to include Silver Crown cars to provide any semblance of a full
field.

Caution 1: Lap 1-10: green/yellow start

Caution 2: Lap 12-18: #96 accident turn 2

Caution 3: Lap 20-27: #44 spun turn 1

Caution 4: Lap 45-50: #15 spun turn 1

Caution 5: Lap 114-118: #19 stalled on track

Caution 6: Lap 161-172: #1 accident and rain

Caution 7: Lap 198-200: rain

Hard to believe, but this was the first race in over nine years that had
qualifying rained out. Either mother nature was smiling on us in those
years, or we just shrugged off light showers and only cancelled if it
was a serious storm.

As such, this was the first time that the starting lineup was purely
based on owner points. The last rainout at Atlanta in '73 had a rather
convoluted system based on what amounted to promoter's options and entry
blanks.
