British Columbia native Roy Smith finished 6th; his best. It was also his 4th and final Top 10. Also Californian Jim Reich debuted (10th). He made two starts: both in 1982 at Riverside. A few other West Coast drivers (with unfamiliar names) made one of their limited starts. 3. jessie henyf posted: 05.25.2009 - 8:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) sad day for f1 4. Shepherd would have made the chase anyway if there was a chase back then. That's how good he was, making the chase despite not starting every race 5. Ulrich so that D.K. could save money and not have to bring a car all the way to California. Arrington had a garage near Riverside where he kept cars for the same purpose. 6. The winner was Hershel McGriff in a Camaro that was crewed by Jake Elder and Terry Labonte's Winston Cup team. Glen Steurer was second followed by Steve Anderson, Ron Esau and Bryan Brown. Ron Hornaday Jr. was 21st. 12. Stacy's blue #2 Buick home with a win while Terry Labonte finishes second in the red #44 Buick Stacy also sponsored. While Texas Terry took the runner-up spot, lead the most laps, and left Riverside with a solid lead in the points standings this week would see a shock as three days later the Billy Hagan #44 team lost its Stacy sponsorship when J.D. pulled the plug citing that Terry's driver's uniform had "unauthorized" patches for Hagan's oil exploration company Stratograph on it. This was about the time Stacy got into trouble with a lot of his NASCAR sponsorships and not paying teams on time, plus he was already being in the process of pulling Dave Marcis' backing in relation to helping Bobby Allison beat Richmond at Pocono a few races earlier, so while he backed four of the top-10 finishes here those deals were all in trouble. Labonte and Hagan quickly found a new sponsor, Texas Jeans, for the rest of the season. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
