Darrell Waltrip blew an engine, making it 3 DNF's in the first 4 races
of the season for the yellow and white Pepsi Chevrolet. It was the third
year he would get off the a slow start, but this time it would be too
slow as Bobby Allison would nose out Darrell Waltrip, preventing Jaws
from winning 3 straight...

Buddy Arrington led 1 lap in this event in a Dodge. Dodge wouldn't lead
a Cup Series event until Bill Elliott led the opening lap of the 2001
Daytona 500.

ps. lay off my boy Ragan. He has a chance at winning the 500 this season!

A Roush car winning the 500? I'll believe that when I see it.
Personally, I think James Hylton has a better shot at winning it, as
he's driving a Dodge.

A Roush car won the Daytona 500 this year, but it was by Matt Kenseth.

Bobby Allison and the DiGard team made a big switch leading up to this
race as they dropped their new Chevrolet Monte Carlos and switched over
to running Buick Regals, continuing to run Buicks throughout the rest of
1983. Allison's first race of the season ended poorly, with the Miller
High Life #22 blowing a motor, and he dropped from second to fifth in
the points because of it...but that would be his lowest position in the
point standings all year with the manufacturer change paying off as the
year went on.

Didn't Allison design and test that body for cehvrolet then get posses
that they let Junior Johnson use it? that was a rumor at one time anyway.

Found a photo from this race on twitter. Buddy Arrington was in his
Chrysler Imperial not the Dodge Mirada.

Driver Change - Dick May qualified the #19 before handing over to JD
McDuffie, likely after McDuffie missed the field in his usual #70.
