Geoff Bodine dominated but crashed. It would have been his first career
race. Luckily for him, he wouldn't have to wait much longer for that win.

I remember Tim Richmond had won the pole and blew and engine going into
turn 3 on the 1st lap.

Good top 5 for a young Mark Martin, his only with J.D. Stacy's team but
his got the axe shortly thereafter.

Points leader Dick Brooks and the Donlavey #90 team have their title
hopes derailed by a blown motor that leaves them with a 19th place
finish and drops them to 4th in points

Tim Richmond and Blue Max almost didn't get to race. They hadn't paid a
tire bill all season and the Goodyear guys were refusing to give them
tires. Crew Chief Tim Brewer wrote a personal check so they could tires
to practice and qualify.

This is per Larry McReynolds on the Dale Jr Download. Larry worked for
Blue Max for the first five races of 1983 before he quit due to team
dysfunction and money issues.

Driver Change - Jim Sauter qualified the #6 before DK Ulrich took over
for the race.
