Earnhardt won a race in a FORD! All the #3 worshipers must be crying over this. Idolatry has it's drawbacks. 3. myself posted: 07.26.2009 - 4:25 pm Rate this comment: (2) (1) LOL, DieselDan! 4. He was not nearly as well rounded a driver as Petty, Pearson, Cale or even Bobby Allison who didn't have as nearly as many weak tracks as Earnhardt did. His mediocre/weak at best tracks were MIS, Dover, Pocono, Phoenix and Rockingham. I didn't see the other top drivers struggle to win there like Dale did. Those tracks require a smooth driving style, and Earnhardt, stubborn as he was, would not adapt his style to be a consistent threat at those tracks. To top it off, he only won one Daytona 500 and two July 400 races at Daytona. I'll give him huge credit for being dominate at Talladega, Bristol, Alanta and Darlinton where 37 of his carrer Cup 76 wins came at. That's a telling statistic with half of his carrer wins at only four tracks. Had Davey Allison and Alan Kulwicki not died in 1993, Earnhardt probably would not have been Winston Cup Champ in 1993 and 1994. 8. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 06.26.2014 - 1:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Lap 84-89 #64 engine failure Lap 115-119: #88 accident turns 1/2 Lap 170-177: #7 accident turn 1 Lap 274-279: #88 spin turn 4 9. Rusty Wallace wasn't the smoothest driver around 11. First off, he was still pretty hard on equipment. That's why he left Childress and went to drive for Bud. Bud was in a better position to afford it. Second, the Bud Moore team was struggling with valve spring issues, which led to many of the DNF's. They found the problem once they started to paint mark the valve springs to help identify them and all the paint was being burnt. Another factor during this era was the change to the radial tires. Earnhardt hated the radials, preferring the bias-ply's handling characteristics. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
