Petty's 199th win had an illegal carberator. His "200th" win had an illegal engine that nascar conviently overlooked! The headline in the paper following this race read, "The Day in Dover was Fine, as Richard Got 199." 5. After a 13 year absence from the sport, Michigan driver and ARCA legend Jerry Churchill returns to the Cup series for his final start on the tour. Churchill finished 34th after a crash. Churchill would not run another NASCAR race for 11 years, reappearing at Phoenix to run the debut event of the Truck series in 1995. Georgia driver Jim Southard makes his first of 5 starts on the NASCAR Cup tourf 6. In a preview of Richard winning in front of President Reagan at Daytona a few weeks later, the President's daughter, Maureen Reagan, was this race's honorary starter. Where did you get the info on Petty having an illegal carburetor after the race? I haven't seen any info on that. 9. Also multiple newspapers confirm it was a Dodge. 14. Rich posted: 09.22.2020 - 3:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mike Joy and Phil Parsons were the commentators. Charlie Harville was the sole pit road reporter. 15. rateus posted: 02.07.2021 - 2:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The starting line-up for this race omits Means, Ulrich, Shepherd and Fields completely but does show James Ingalls (Buick), Jimmy Walker (Ford) and Bobby Gerhart (Chevrolet) as the 3 slowest of 35 qualifiers. Given their starting positions it looks like NASCAR somehow reinstated the missing drivers (Fields possibly as a driver change), so I'd list Ingalls, Walker and Gerhart as non-qualifiers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
