Elliott had to stick his number 9 all the way to the bottom of the track to win by a foot over Harry Gant. Some great racing between those two in the closing laps. I would love to find a full version of this race. 4. RaceFanX posted: 03.12.2008 - 8:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Terry Schoonover makes his NASCAR debut and finishes a career best 21st. Sadly, Schoonover was killed in an accident during the series next race at Atlanta. Last race for Buddie Boys, who may be related to journeyman Trevor Boys (they share a hometown) 5. It was planned that his son Davey would be his relief driver; however Davey was not allowed to because he was a rookie in the Busch Series at the time. The relief of Bobby occurred around lap 180 during the Jerry Bowman flip. The relief driver of the #22 Miller High Life Buick was Neil Bonnett of the #12 Budweiser Chevrolet, this would never occur in today's NASCAR. 15. The campaign was certainly on Americans minds at the time and the focus extended to the track here as Dick May, making the third-to-last Cup start of his career, finished in the top-20 (the last time he ever did so) driving a car promoting the campaign of incumbent President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George H.W. Bush. Reagan and Bush were easily reelected in a landslide two weeks later, taking 49 of the 50 states in the process, as they bested challengers Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro. 20. Elliott would go on to win four races here over his career including his last win in 2003. 21. NewGuyOnTheBlock posted: 04.05.2020 - 8:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) SETN broadcast this race. He was a competitive guy and running many laps down during this race he later recounted years later he thought to himself "Joe, if this is the best you can do, I'd just as soon be at home digging ditches." He made a few more starts after this but a big break never came for Millikan before he hung up his helmet and moved over to a career in farming. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
