This race was Michael Waltrip's Winston Cup debut. It's pretty cool that
D.W. won that race.

Oh, I see that Mr. Richard Harold Brooks had died from a heart attack at
home at 63 last year.

His last race is in 10th place over Darrell Waltrip's win.

In just after his win was the Winston.

Coca-Cola starts their sponsorship of the World 600 with this event.
After titling the event the "Coca-Cola World 600," the name would be
shortened to "Coca-Cola 600" from 1986 onward

The innaugaral The Winston was held a day before this race. Darrell Waltrip
expired an engine as he took the checkers. Some say the engine was illegal.

Darrell Waltrip ran down and passed Harry Gant for the win late in the
race in both the All Star race and the 600. He passed Gant on the last
lap on Saturday and with 10 laps to go on Sunday.

Intersting fact that only 3 cars running on the lead lap and Dale
Earnhart was the only car a lap down while everyone else was two or more
laps down.

Can't believe that nobody has mentioned that this was Bill Elliott's
first shot to clinch the first ever Winston Million.
