Since he was the last holdout I'll assume this might also have been the last race for a Mopar until the 2001 Daytona 500 4. The car he was driving went over a cliff. Amazing, Norm survived but was run over and killed by a MACK truck after climbing to safety. I wouldn't believe it myself but this comes straight out of the Stock car racing Encyclopedia. RIP Norm Palmer 5. Footage of Clark Dwyer and Norm Palmer spinning in this race was included in its well known video "And They Walked Away" (Steve Evans joked Dwyer "found the esses not to his liking and kicked up a lot of dust about it" when mentioning his spin which did throw up a lot of dirt after he got off track). The clips from this race were mixed in with other Riverside action from IMSA GTP, Renault Cup, SCCA Formula 2000, and lower level NASCAR touring series competition. 10. He wrecked in practice and despite his best attempts (Even welding a stock Monte Caro nose to the front of his car) he missed the race. 11. This was Labonte's second and final NASCAR Cup road course victory, both of them coming at Riverside. 12. It was very easy to spot since he spun at the end of the first lap. Buddy had mentioned in an interview earlier in the year he had sold 2 of his cars to west coast guys. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
