Waltrip would also be found to be using illegal fuel, and Bill Elliott would eventually be awarded the pole. 4. (he actually won 6 consecutive poles!) 7. most posted: 03.20.2008 - 3:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cale had 5 straight in 1980 (and also won an increadible 8 of 9 in a stretch and 14 total!) Bill winning his 5 straight was robably more improssive as times had changed in those 5 years! 8. Blew up after 3 laps at the Van Scoy race in June and blew up after 11 laps at the Summer 500. 10. He had to use his son Davey's ARCA car in this race. 11. I'm surprised the Elliott's haven't written a book by now on how they cheated that year. 15. Walleyewhacker posted: 02.15.2014 - 2:43 pm Rate this comment: (6) (0) The street version of the 1985 Thunderbird was a smaller car and more aerodynamic than the street 1985 Monte Carlo with it's square rear window. Same scale applies for the race versions. Elliott's 1985 Thunderbird was the same size as Rudd's, Kyle Petty's and Cale's Thunderbirds. They all fit the 1985 Thunderbird NASCAR templates. The Thunderbirds were still smaller in 1986, but the Monte Carlos got more aerodynamic and faster on the track due to the 1986 Monte Carlo SS fastback rear window. Chevrolet NASACR teams were not complaining about haveing a lager car in 1986 when they were dominating at the track. Was Rusty Wallace cheating in 1988 due to the stock 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix and NASCAR race version being smaller than Monte Carlos that were sold to the public and raced in NASCAR in 1988? The 1989-94 NASCAR Thunderbirds were wider than the 1989-94 NASCAR Luminas because the street version Thunderbirds were wider. Ford drivers had to put up with it. Look at the races from 1995. The new 1995 NASCAR Monte Carlo was a lot smaller than the Thunderbird because the street version was smaller. It's only been since the early 2000's when all the cars started to get generic and same sized/shaped when they all had Taurus shaped rooflines. 16. He would field his own team the following week at Talladega. 19. zuel660 posted: 07.09.2019 - 10:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 1 of 3 starts that year for J.D.
