He finished 30th. 2. RaceFanX posted: 03.05.2008 - 9:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Chet Fillip makes his NASCAR debut driving Tom Mitchell's Circle Bar Ford entry. This was Mitchell's first ever NASCAR entry but it was far from his last. Mitchell's Circle Bar Fords would go on fame many years later in the Truck series with Rick Crawford as the driver. 3. A trend he would suffer again in 1992 and 2002. 9. Ryan posted: 06.23.2013 - 9:21 pm Rate this comment: (1) (2) How he another idiot? He finished 2nd. Now a driver that actually won 11 races AND won the championship was Dale Earnhardt in 1987... beating Elliott by 489 points, lol. 10. Walleyewhacker posted: 04.06.2014 - 11:52 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) And how many of Earnhardts wins in 1987 were memorable and not tainted from his dirty driving or blocking? 11. Don't waste your breath....he doesn't want to talk about how Bill spanked Earnhardt all over the place in 1985. He wants to pretend it didn't happen in 1992 as well. He also doesn't want to talk about those seasons between 1994 and Earnhardt's death where Earnhardt continually failed to win a championship. 12. zuel660 posted: 01.28.2015 - 7:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Swindell didn't win for Beadle in Nascar, but Sammy did win for him a lot in World of Outlaws competition 13. Scott B posted: 03.01.2016 - 12:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) That was Pearson's choice. He never liked running a heavy schedule of races, and by that point in his career was in the semi-retired/very selective phase. Morgan took over the wheel of that ride for several races that season. 16. Scott B posted: 03.01.2016 - 12:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sorry, gave you the wrong answer. David had moved over to the Hoss Ellington team along with his sponsor Chattanooga Chew by then, hoping for more competitive cars. 17. Rob posted: 12.02.2017 - 5:19 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Shepherd was very competitive in this race. He was running in the top three for much of the middle portion before a cut tire put him a lap down.i 18. JSPorts posted: 12.02.2017 - 6:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't know what it was about Atlanta, but Shepherd did so well there. 3 of his 4 career wins came on the same non-plate track, which is interesting and I doubt could be said for many others (75% of their wins came on the same non-plate track.) His best average finish at a track was actually Indy, where he finished in the top 10 in 3 of his 4 starts. 19. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 04.12.2018 - 9:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 1-6: green/yellow start Caution 2: Lap 38-41: #31 accident turn 4 Caution 3: Lap 96-103: #14,23,64 accident turn 2 Caution 4: Lap 133-136: #8 spun turn 1 Caution 5: Lap 190-196: #71 accident turn 4 Caution 6: Lap 270-279: #7,72 accident turn 3 20. Nascar Fan posted: 06.26.2018 - 6:35 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) It is amazing to me that Bill lost the championship in 1985. A few of the races he had issues at he was probably a favorite. Seems like the second Dover race comes to mind where he was obviously the best car but had an issue that took him out. Waltrip was always a very consistent driver and very good on short tracks, a bit of an achilles heel for Bill even though he had solid finishes at short track in 1985. I think 1985 shows you that Nascar is about a lot of things, but at the end of the day it is a lot about luck. 22. JSPorts posted: 06.26.2018 - 7:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think an argument can be made that Elliott, Gant & Earnhardt were all faster than Waltrip in 1985, but he was just the most consistent. Sure, he was lucky, but he had become a wiser driver by that point and knew how to get the most out of his equipment (as opposed to his win-or-bust mentality that he was known for throughout the early days of his career.) 23. Ryan posted: 06.26.2018 - 10:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @10 None. Won by 489. @11 Elliott didn't win the title in '85 or '92. Earnhardt won the title in 1994. 1985 could have been the greatest year in racing for a driver, if only Bill Elliott could have won the championship. 24. RaceFanX posted: 03.14.2020 - 5:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor: #21 Rick Wilson- Ellington Insulation Wilson's ride here was a one-off in a second Hoss Ellington Chevrolet, running as a teammate to Davey Allison in the team's usual #1. The pair qualified together on Row 16 but Allison's day would be a short one thanks to a blown motor in his final outing for Ellington. Wilson finished in top-20 then moved on to start his long association with the Morgan-McClure team in 1986. 29.
