It was Dale Earnhardt's 26th career Cup win and his 3rd of 6 career Martinsville wins. Dale became the 7th driver in NASCAR history to win 4 consecutive races, and is currently one of only 12 drivers to accomplish the feat (8 in the modern era). 7. However, this was fourth race in a row, which Dale Earnhardt won. Rusty Wallace won only three races in a row. 11. Jimnsimforever posted: 11.29.2018 - 10:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dale won this race in a very strange way. 17 laps left, only 4 cars on the lead lap in a long green flag run and Geoff Bodine in the #5 car had this race won with a half a track lead on Dale in 2nd and Rusty in 3rd and about to catch the only other car on the lead lap Phil Parsons. Bodine made a stupid mistake passing lap car Kyle Petty in the turn on the outside, thinking he had him cleared started to pull to the inside groove, Petty's nose was still there and Bodine spun out. No caution came out and both Dale and Rusty were able to get by Bodine before he could get going again. The crazy thing is, they just got done saying on the broadcast that Earnhardt's crew chief had just talked to Rusty Wallace's crew and basically said we can't catch the #5 car, do you want us to let you pass and see if you can? Rusty's crew apparently turned the offer down. I find that hard to believe but maybe Dale was trying to be extra nice with the hot water he was in with Nascar from the previous race. I bet the Wallace crew was kicking themselves. 13.
