Tony Stewart would be the won to break the record in 1999. 4. myself posted: 02.21.2008 - 2:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Damn that Tony Stewart! 5. Tell me again why anyone would consider Earnhardt a better driver than Petty or Pearson who were consistant winners at Dover? Bobby Allison and Ricky Rudd had no problem winning with Bud Moore Thunderbirds at Dover in the 1980's. What was Earnhardt's excuse for not winning at Dover in 1982-83 while driving Buds Thunderbirds? 13. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 03.27.2014 - 8:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 1st Caution: #31 engine failure 2nd Caution: #37 accident 3rd caution: #43 accident 4th caution: #6 accident frontstretch 5th caution: #4,26,81 accident frontstretch 6th caution: ambulance and that's all the cautions i have for now 14. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 03.27.2014 - 8:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 7th caution: #8 engine failure 8th caution: #90 accident or spin frontstretch (he scraped the wall on the frontstretch i dont know if you count that as an accident) 9th caution: #27,55 accident turn 4 15. wrongwaywillie posted: 07.07.2014 - 3:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Walleyewacker. That's kind of like Bill Elliott at Martinsville. At least Earnhardt actually won at Dover. 16. Walleyewhacker posted: 11.28.2014 - 8:07 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) wrongwaywillie, I'm not comparing Elliott to Petty, Pearson or Earnhardt. I don't think Bill was in their class on the short tracks at Martinsville, Bristol, North Wilksboro or Richmond. I'm comparing Earnhardt to Richard Petty and David Pearson, and I think he falls short. I also rate him behind Cale Yarborough. Dale was really only great at four tracks where alomst half of his 76 wins came at (Bristol, Talladega, Atlanta and Darlington). Dale was not as adaptable at tracks that reward a smooth driving style like MIS, Dover, Pocono, Rockingham, Phoenix, and the 1 1/2 cookier tracks. Petty, Pearson, Cale, Bobby Allison and in more modern times Jeff Gordon were much more versatile and well rounded drivers and didn't struggle at as many tracks as Earnhardt did. 17. As far as I can see there's no indication that either Horton, or his car owner George Smith, attempted that Cup race, they seem to have been strictly BGN until June. (if Horton did attempt the race the only plausible reason for his name not appearing would be if he failed post-qualifying inspection, in which case he wouldn't be creditted with a qualifying attempt. That's pretty unlikely, more likely is that he wasn't there.) 22. rateus posted: 02.06.2021 - 12:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Starting line-up (including qualiying speeds) as printed in various newspapers 05/31/1987 - my example is from the Sunday News (Lancaster, PA), but a quick search on newspapers.com should find multiple duplicates. And note I didn't say *which* Ford, the line-up only shows makes. As an aside starting line-ups for most races at least as far back as the early 70s can be found via online newspaper archives, usually with qualifying speeds given. The exceptions seem to be the races at Nashville and the Fall Bristol race, where second round qualifying was often held on race-day morning. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
