Ironically enough, Allison won the race. 2. There was a caution with a few laps to go, and Bobby beat the leader back to the line to get back on the lead lap. He then got four tires and blasted through the field to win the race. 7. Fenway posted: 10.02.2006 - 4:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Allison showed off all of his experience and guile as he got back onto the lead lap after a late caution flag, then stunned the spectators in attendance as he charged through the field to take the lead with a handful of laps remaining and the win going away after a pit stop for four tires. Due to scoring problems, many didn't even know he was on the same lap as the lead cars. Out of turn four for the final time, Ken Schrader, running third in Junie Donlavey's Ford, washed up in front of Dave Marcis. Marcis didn't lift, barely touched Schrader, sending him out of control and toward the infield. Schrader brought it back pointing straight, but was down on the flat and heading toward the infield and pit road and he then tried to swerve right back onto the track and lost it again. Spinning straight toward the wall in the trioval, his car overturned in front of Morgan Shepherd, who had a heart stopping moment as he drove through the smoke and almost into the Ford, and Darrell Waltrip slammed the wall trying to get by. Schrader eventually landed in Harry Gant's hood. The rest of the cars scattered low. In car cameras then captured some humorous moments as Schrader yelled at the safety crews who couldn't get his window net down. 9. Good race. 10. Steve posted: 11.27.2006 - 7:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) last time daytona had that rinky dink press box, by the 500 the next year they had the huge brand new winston tower 11. There was massive confusion in the final laps regarding Bobby Allison. Most around me thought Baker, Marcis, & Schrader were battling for the win. All of a sudden, Bobby swoops in & steals the win. Davey Allison's first pole in the #28! 14. biffle16 posted: 05.02.2007 - 2:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Radio, television, and track announcers had no idea Allison was even on the lead lap as he crossed the finish line first. 15. Jon posted: 04.24.2008 - 10:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) IIRC the ABC announcer was Keith Jackson, and he was very confused about Allison taking the lead, and his tone was actually a little angry about lack of info on the scoring. He thought Baker was still the leader, even after Allison passed him. I seem to remember him saying something like "what the heck is going on here?" Dave Marcis was on his way to victory, he had a big lead when the last caution came out (the caution that put Bobby back on the lead lap). 16. After his car came to rest in the tri-oval, the microphone on Kenny Schrader's in-car cam caught him dropping an F-Bomb when the safety crew got to the car. Something along the lines of "Will you get this f*&^ing net down?" 19. "Kyle Petty required a couple of stitches after a chair fell on his head in the garage area Friday. Petty happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when Brad Parrott, a crew member on Bobby Allison's team, accidentally knocked a chair off the top of Dale Earnhardt's trailer. The rumors that Parrott is a disgruntled music critic are assumed false, Petty sang Thursday night at a Daytona Beach nightclub." 30. Earnhardt was hampered on restarts and green flag pit stops in the second half of the race.He only had high gear and it took him two laps to get up to speed. Bobby Allison got his lap back soon after second to last restart. Was running ahead of the leaders at the tail of the lead lap so had a strong car. Lake Speed relief drove for Richard Petty with about 30 to go. Petty suffering from the heat. Car would not restart and lost a bunch of laps. Without the late caution, caused by Rick Wilson blowing a tyre and hitting the wall in the tri-oval, it looks like Dave Marcis would have won. He was way out in front. 31.
