Somehow Rusty got the car running without stalling and still won by 11 seconds. 6. SK posted: 10.10.2007 - 6:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was Moise's Winston Cup debut. 7. This is still the last time a Cup driver pitted on the last lap and still won the race isn't it? 17. The interviewer asked him about rumors that Paul Newman was going to drive a 5th car during the Watkins Glen race and Hendrick confirmed it and said he was testing there and that is the plan. The commentator then talked about how the ticket sales at the Glen are now going to skyrocket. I see that Paul Newman didn't run. What the heck? lol 21. I could hear Rusty's motor still running when he pulled in for a splash of fuel, so he wasn't completely out of gas. If he was, you would have either seen the crew having to push him to try and get it started back up, or you would have heard the engine re-fire. He had a big enough lead to where they could come in so they wouldn't completely run out and give Terry Labonte a chance to catch him. When the commentators realized the camera could pick up the sound of the engine still running as Rusty came to a stop at his pit Larry Nuber changed the story from "Rusty is out of fuel" to "he is almost out of fuel, the red light has come on and he was almost out of fuel". Afterword, both Rusty and his crew chief said they timed it just right, the red light came on right before he came in. It was still cool that it was their strategy and it worked out for them. 22. nascarman posted: 09.25.2019 - 8:23 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Withdrew: 50 / Greg Sacks / Valvoline / Dingman Brothers / Pontiac 51 / Paul Newman / Levi Garrett / Rick Hendrick / Chevrolet -Sacks crashed in practice and withdrew from the race. -While there were rumors that Newman would run this race (Hendrick even mentioned it in an interview at Riverside in June) news came out on July 15th that Watkins Glen recieved an entry form stating that Newman would enter. It was reported that he would drive the same car Geoff Bodine led 32 laps with one year earlier. However on July 19th, Newman withdrew saying he had other schedule conflicts. https://www.racing-reference.info/showblog?id=3519 23. dennyfan11 posted: 01.01.2020 - 5:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What was the TV coverage situation for the race? I get mixed signals. On the day of the race, there were a few newspaper reports saying that the race will be televised live, but others say that it would be shown on tape delay at 1:00 PM that afternoon, due to conflicts with the Volvo International Tennis Tournament. However, on the broadcast itself, it says that the Volvo International Tennis Tournament would be shown after the race. So was the whole race shown live? Some on tape-delay, the rest live? All tape-delay? 24. Newman won the Academy Award for Best Actor in March for his performance as ?Fast? Eddie Nelson in the 1986 drama ?The Color of Money?, which was a sequel to 1961's ?The Hustler?, where he originally portrayed Nelson. 25.
