The rest, as they say, is history. 4. With a couple of laps to go, Earnhardt was leading, Labonte was 2nd & Waltrip was 3rd...all running "nose to tail". When they came out of the 2nd turn on lap 499, Labonte decided to try to pass Earnhardt on the outside. When he moved to the outside, Waltrip moved up closer to Earnhardt, of course. About 3 seconds later, when they got to the end of the backstretch, Labonte realized he couldn't make the pass & tried to squeeze back into the hole between Earnhardt & Waltrip...which was no longer there. Labonte hit Earnhardt's right rear bumper & both of them spun up into the wall. Waltrip didn't touch either one of them, and went on around to get the white flag. The wreck was totally Labonte's fault. You must just be a Waltrip-hater. 7. Anonymous posted: 10.30.2007 - 12:51 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Neil Bonnett breaks bones again. DW dove his car in there but didn't touch anyone. 10. Thus Buddy Baker (somehow?) managed to start at the rear of the field. Not sure how the provisional rules were written back then or how that's even possible but thought I'd pass it along. No mention of any other DNQ's for the race. 11. Kellen posted: 09.27.2008 - 11:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I was born the day this race was ran. He definatly touched Labonte's backend. Personally I think it was because Terry did try and squeeze into a hole that wasn't there, but there was definatly contact made between Waltrip and Labonte. Waltrip even admits he touched him. Some fans must be blind! 14. Flywheel posted: 01.28.2013 - 6:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The last caution should be for #90 and #22 spin in turn 4. 15. This was the first short track race all season that he didn't win, and he only lost this one due to last lap dramatics. 16. RaceFanX posted: 04.03.2018 - 1:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Virginia racer Curtis Markham, making just his second Cup start, ends up sidelined before the halfway mark but still finishes 26th to claim the best finish of his short career in the series. This was the first of three late season races for Markham in Elmo Langley's #64 Ford, he'd become the team's last new driver before it closed at the end of the year. While Markham's Cup career never quite took off he'd go on to have some success in the Busch series in the mid-1990s. 18. He did finish 2nd four more times after winning his 11th race. He had 17 podium finishes in 29 races. 19. Not only did Waltrip get into the back of Terry Labonte but Darrells' wheels turned sharply to the right then back left to make the turn. He did it on purpose no arguing it. He was getting revenge on Dale for the spring race at Richmond the year before. The only difference is, Dale wrecked Darrell by trying to dive into turn 3 when there was no space and wrecked both of them, handing Kyle Petty his first win. Darrell purposely wrecked Terry Labonte right before turn 3 knowing it would wreck Dale too and he could go right by them both. 20. Jimnsimforever posted: 12.04.2018 - 1:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Meant to say also that Dale had one coming from Darrell, but Darrell wrecked an innocent bystander in the situation to do it. 21. I don't think so, Tim. What is he, psychic? 23. Jimnsimforever posted: 12.04.2018 - 4:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @ 22 Its Martinsville, when 3 cars are nearly touching going into turn 1 or 3 and have to slow way down to make the turn but the 3rd car doesnt slow enough, turns their wheel to the right into the 2nd cars left rear, it's going to push the 2nd car into the first car and cause them both to spin too far in the direction they are turning. No psychic ability needed to know common sense physics. And it's Jim not Tim. 24. Darrell posted: 12.14.2018 - 6:16 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) D.K. Ulrich relieved Ernie Irvan during this race. According to Irvan's autobiography, the supports for the driver's seat collapsed onto the floor above the tailpipe, causing the seat itself to heat up to uncomfortable levels. Irvan radioed in "my butt is burning!" and after Ulrich called him a wimp multiple times, he agreed to relieve the rookie driver. Not too long after taking over the driving chores, Ulrich himself radioed in saying that Irvan wasn't wrong about the seat and wanted some cold towels ASAP. Both men were blistered so bad they rode home lying on their stomachs. A truly dignified performance. 25. Before the race someone put a little flower vase with a rose and a little cars reading "win this one for me, Daddy" on the seat in DW's car. 26.
