Can you confirm in the video you mentioned that the interior of that car was red for that race? It was only the one time. Rumor has it the car used for that race with the red interior was scheduled to be the show car when they announced the Goodwrench sponsorship. If it's possible can you email me a clip or a snapshot from the tape? HUGE Earnhardt fan here..... Thanks 4. The picture on the tape is in horrible condition so I can't tell if the interior was red or not. I know that Earnhardt ran a car with red interior for the second Dover race in '87. 5. Charlie Baker crashed in either practice or qualifying and J.D. lent him his back up. They slapped a #93 on the car and Charlie raced it! 8. Leaving Bud for the #26 Quaker State Buick was a bad move, as the #26 blew more than a dozen motors in 1988. 13. He only won the Daytona 500 in the first half and won 5 times in the second half of the 1987 season. Where would those wins come at? The June race at MIS, the July Pocono race, Daytona 400 in July for sure. 15. wrongwaywillie posted: 07.09.2014 - 10:45 pm Rate this comment: (5) (3) Would've! Could've! Should've! I believe no one was injured but it appeared all parties involved had to eject. Bill even gave an interview for a local news station after the incident. 22. Miller changed its motorsports marketing focus in 1988 and the red-and-white Miller American colors seen on everything from IndyCars to unlimited hydroplanes would be retired in favor of a new gold-and-white scheme for Miller High Life that would again be used across several motorsports disciplines. This was also Allison's last race in his championship-winning #22 before he and the Stavola Brothers changed their number to #12 for 1988 and beyond. This was the last Cup race without Mark Martin in the field until early 2007 at Bristol. 25. ARosser14 posted: 09.11.2017 - 9:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To elaborate on post 21, the jet Bill was in actually didn't crash (the other one did but its pilot ejected safely) and they were able to land without ejecting. Bill talks about the incident in detail in his book, recounting his fear of being smashed against the canopy if he had to eject, a la the demise of Goose in the movie Top Gun that was the big thing at the time. He later found out that those fears had been completely unfounded: his seat wasn't equipped to eject in the first place. 26. Bobby B. posted: 09.11.2017 - 11:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There's one more chilling detail to the story described in posts 21 and 25. The pilot didn't realize Bill's seat wasn't equipped to eject. He handed Bill a hastily written note (the collision had wiped out their communications system) that said if his next maneuver didn't work, the plan was for both of them to eject. Basically, if the pilot had ejected, he would have unknowingly left Bill to go down with the plane. 27. kup posted: 11.15.2017 - 2:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) UPS: universal points system. He was about ready to be fired and lose his Winston Cup ride in 1987 until he won the first Charlotte race in the Busch series that made them decide to keep him in the cup ride. He went on to win 2 more Busch races in 87 but his Cup luck was terrible. They talked about this during one of the race broadcasts. 30.
