Was a Survival of the Fittest race, and Lake Speed was able to stay out of trouble. 3. Speed made a daring three-wide pass on Wallace and lapped car Bobby Allison to take the lead and essentially seal the victory. 4. There was a lot of worry from teams that they would blister, but they never did. 6. biffle16 posted: 05.17.2007 - 2:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Steve Moore's last start. 7. From 1978 to 1988 Hamby fielded cars in 290 races with drivers like Sterling Marlin, Bill Elliott, Lake Speed, Mark Martin, Morgan Shepard, and even himself at the wheel but his cars never scored a finish higher than 6th, ironically with Lake Speed driving at Darlington (1982 Southern 500) Good job for Lake though, he earned this win. 9. He and his wife Kelley welcomed their first child, Natalee, in just a day before the race. Dale also had a son, Jason. He and Kelley had two more children, Karsyn and Zachary. 10. samfan08 posted: 05.18.2008 - 2:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Top 2 finishers were owner-drivers. You'll never see that these days, sadly. 11. Ryan posted: 12.11.2008 - 4:49 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) I was at this race. 5 years old. And I was like? Who in the world is Lake Speed? That car was right that day. 12. Anonymous posted: 05.20.2009 - 12:28 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Since this race, no other driver has won their first Cup race at Darlington. 13. Grouped into a category of racers that would have been awesome if they had the equipment. 15. He wouldn't get a finish to match, sad to say. 21. GoPM21 posted: 05.20.2019 - 7:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Arrington was transported to the hospital and was released with a bruised chest.
