In fact, Earnhardt said IN VICTORY LANE that he believed that Harry had been the one to beat and that if Gant hadn't lost his engine, Gant would have won for sure because he wasn't fast enough to run with Gant. 4. I'm not sure of any other TV networks that would have televised a Martinsville race. Was this race televised at all? 5. stricklinfan82 posted: 04.18.2008 - 2:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was the final race televised by the SETN network before they went bankrupt that summer. They taped several races in the 80's at Pocono, Martinsville, Richmond, and Rockingham and aired them on a syndicated basis in 60-90 minute formats. They were supposed to televise the fall Martinsville race that year as well but after they went bankrupt ESPN jumped in at the last second and provided live coverage of it, starting a relationship with the track that would last until 2001 when the modern-era TV contracts started. 6. I believe they might have done a couple of ARCA races in '88...they made a tape of crashes in '91 and these two tracks were in it as well. 7. What an awful two years for the #33 team. 8. Hillin's top-5 was his only one of the 1988 season and the last one of his career on an oval track. 9. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 02.09.2017 - 5:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: #83 spun turn 4 Caution 2: #4,55 accident turn 4 Caution 3: #5,21 accident backstretch Caution 5: #6 engine Caution 6: #5 spun turn 4 10. Shame a mechanical failure put him on the sidelines come race day. This was Hensley's only Cup start of the season. 13. Harry Gant was jinxed at this point in time and the jinx was still going to last through 89 as well. By this point in time so many bad things were happening to him that Dale probably said that to make him feel better. There was no doubt Harry's engine was going to blow or he'd have gotten caught up in a wreck that wasn't his fault before he'd have ever won this race. Even if Gant had the lead on the last lap by a full straightaway, a bald eagle would've swooped down into his tire well and wrecked him. 14. Pat Patterson was the sole pit road reporter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
