On the first lap, on the tunnel turn(It may have been somewhere else, I dunno), Allison spun, and then was slammed very hard in the driver's door by Jocko Maggiacomo. Allison was severely injured, and as a result, lost all memory of the 1988 season, including his fairytale win in the Daytona 500, where he led his son, Davey, in a father-son 1-2 finish. 2. When he finally wins, it will cost even more :((( 3. Mike D posted: 10.05.2005 - 2:15 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) ^ That's a very interesting point. Can't blame Michael though...besides his following wins came without any major incidents. 4. larry spencer posted: 10.06.2005 - 10:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The end of the career of the great driver of all time 5. He also won the pole when Grant Adcox was killed, and we all know what happened after he won the championship. 8. nascarman posted: 11.03.2006 - 12:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) In addition to what Darrell said Alan Kulwicki also won the pole when Davey Allison had that bad flip at Pocono in 1992. 9. Thomas posted: 12.18.2006 - 2:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Yeah, they didn't say anything about it or even show a replay. I think the only coverage of this race was a tape-delayed and edited version on Showtime. 10. pat posted: 10.23.2007 - 1:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) In the next race at Michigan, they used an "artists rendering" to show the Allison crash. I think it was drawn with crayons, and Ken Squier walks the audience through the 3 pictures and then they show a little post-accident footage and still pics. 11. Breaker047 posted: 03.12.2008 - 10:02 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Kulwicki was a really good qualifier though, not like a Michael Waltrip with 4 poles or Derrike Cope with 1 ... Kulwicki did win 24 poles in 209 races, a pole every 8-9 races. 24 poles puts him 26th all time. Still weird though. 12. He briefly came out of retirement in 1991 to run the Winston Legends race on the All-Star weekend and made an appear in the infamous Fastmasters series in 1993. 13. DaleSrFanForever posted: 03.14.2011 - 12:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dale won a Twin 125 race in '83 in which a driver got killed, an Atlanta race in '84 where Schoonover got killed, and at Atlanta again in '89 where Grant Adcox was killed. He also won a few days after Davey Allison died at Pocono and did the Alan Kulwicki victory lap holding a Davey Allison flag. He also won two days after the Truck race that Tony Roper died in. 14. I honestly think the Future of NASCAR broadcasts as ratings and sponsor money continues to slide that we will see half if not more races will go to on Pay Per View live streaming. And most other sports will go that direction as well. What is everyone's thoughts about this possibly being our future 19. You are eligible for prize money and contingency money. But you are ineligible for points. 25. Terrible job by them when comparing them to the broadcasts SETN did with their edited tape delay broadcasts. 26. Fortunately for his fans, he was talked out of it by Leo Jackson and went on to have the best years of his career with Jackson. 34.
