Drivers swapped the lead every lap, it seemed. The last lap was especially exciting, as Rick Wilson got passed out of the final corner by Bill Elliott. 2. Apparently, they ended up drafting each other for a few laps until a caution saved Elliott's butt. After the caution, the two reunited after Wilson had a bad pit stop, ran through the field and finished 1-2. 8. myself posted: 02.13.2007 - 3:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) The last time the greatest driver in nascar ever raced @ Daytona....CALE YARBOROUGH! On his hood was also a big bold "Just Say NO!" decal! LOL. He drove an old 1987 Pontiac Grabd Prix 2+2 in this race which was an ex-Rusty Wallace #27 Kodiak car from 1987. ***DOES ANYONE know ANYTHING about Hut Stricklin's DNQ?*** Who was he driving for? Harry Gant and Morgan Shepard, plus Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Hillin and Mike Alexander ran in both races in the same day. 32. Dan posted: 12.11.2018 - 6:23 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) #31 - The 400 used to start at 11AM, and Myrtle Beach is just a short flight from Daytona. They easily could've been on the same day, and most likely were. 33. JSPorts posted: 12.11.2018 - 7:12 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) I wish they'd still start the 400 at 11 AM on July 4. There's never really any conflict in that time slot, whereas it has more competition when it's on Saturday night (and people are probably busier.) 34. Jimnsimforever posted: 12.11.2018 - 2:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ok, I figured Myrtle Beach must've been a night race. I also meant to respond to the posts about Morgan Shepard still relief driving for Harry Gant. Just found it strange that if Harry was recovered enough to race again, he would race at Myrtle Beach in the Busch Series and not Daytona, because this was the last of 5 races Morgan raced for Gant after Gant's injury. 35. For whatever reason Bill and Rick could run like a scalded cat with the Ford out front. On the restart the got hooked together and blew by everyone to the lead. Rick had the better car but his best chance to get in position was running 2nd because they were so fast together when Bill was leading. Just came up a little short when Rick when for the win coming to the checkers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
