I remember hearing the story that a lot of people said that you'd want to run the bottom groove. As it turned out, Davey Allison ran the top groove and where did he finish? 1st 2. That car was a hand grenade the whole year blowing up more than a dozen times during the 1988 season. 7. Of course, #98 was a Buick sponsored by Sunoco Ultra/Moe Bandy/Curb Records & owned by Mike Curb. JD McDuffie DNQ'ed a self owned Pontiac #70 most likely sponsored by Rumple Furniture and AC Spark Plugs. 12. It's changed a lot over the years, but the drivers and fans all seem to love it. 19. Wil posted: 12.27.2018 - 1:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't know of anyone who doesn't like Richmond. It's one of the events I look forward to every year. Hopefully the repave at ISM similarly makes the circuit great, although they are very different tracks. 20. This was right in the middle of the tire wars. Hoosier has some trouble and a lot of drivers who qualified well in this race, had to start at the rear because they elected to go to Goodyear for the race. Per NASCAR rules, drivers who didn't qualify on the same brand of tires that they started the race with, had to go to the rear. Pretty much everyone from row 10 on back, changed tires and had to start at the rear. That's why the starting lineup for this race is a little wacky. Allison, qualified his car on Hoosiers and kept them on to get credited with the pole. If he changed tires, he would have lost out on the Unocal money & the guaranteed start in the Busch Clash in 1989. I believe Allison swapped to Goodyear during the race on the first caution flag. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
