Rick Benjamin was the lead anchor for a lot of these PPV broadcasts, and I think David Hobbs and Pat Patterson may have been the pit reporters during some of them. 7. myself posted: 03.15.2007 - 4:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was Junior Johnson's first win owning fords. 8. He was also a local news anchor. 18. He said they came up several spots short. They talked about how the sport is healthier than ever now and usually there is no problem filling the field and they end up sending 10 to 15 cars home. I wonder why they couldn't fill the field for this race. 25. possum posted: 12.19.2018 - 10:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @24 - the announcers were being clueless (or intentionally misleading). The race had 38 cars. Normal for a big track in that timeframe was 40, with no cars DNQ, and it wasn't unusual for teams to skip the "distant" races like Pocono, so 38 would be no surprise. When the announcers say "send 10 cars home" they're thinking of tracks like Martinsville. In that era only 32 cars started on the short tracks, and since they were in the heart of stock car country, it wasn't unusual for over 40 cars to enter, meaning 8 or 10 DNQs. 26. Darrell Waltrip, who had ran second for the majority of the race, had an engine problem around halfway and Rusty Wallace blew a tire from battling for the lead on lap 159 and brought out a caution a few laps later for his oil. 30. rateus posted: 02.06.2021 - 2:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Driver Change - James Hylton himself handled qualifying duties for the #49 before handing over to Trevor Boys for race day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
