While there may have been a rare occasion (I don't think there was), pit road never had to be opened. Cars would come flying down pit road and there wasn't any of this bull about pit road being closed. Unfortunately, an accident that claimed the life of Bill Elliott's tire changer. That was the catalyst that led to more stringent rules for caution flag pit stops. 6. Ironically this triumph in Junior's #11 Ford was the first Cup win for Bodine that didn't come at the wheel of Rick's #5 Chevy. This was also the first win for Junior Johnson's Budweiser team since they switched to an all-red livery for the #11 at the start of the season, abandoning their old red-and-white one used throughout the 1980s. 8.
