I'm sure a lot of fans weren't too thrilled to see Rusty win, after the incident between he and Darrell Waltrip in The Winston the year before. 2. Kyle Petty and Terry Labonte used provisionals to make the race. 3. myself posted: 03.15.2007 - 4:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rusty's first win for the Miller Brewing Co. 4. For a while in the 90s, Earnhardt seemed to have bad luck at Charlotte. 5. John posted: 08.12.2009 - 3:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Pretty shocking to say this was Rusty's only Coke 600 win. 6. Two beer cars (MGD and Coors) and two coffee cars (Folgers and Maxwell House)... 10. The fans in the infield got a thrill as Dale waved as he passed by. 11. 2 & 88 Fan posted: 02.06.2017 - 9:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rusty Wallace's only "major" win is a dominate one as he led 306 of 400 laps. Even then a late caution led to a one-lap shootout in which he successfully held off Bill Elliot and Mark Martin. 12. They would have an accident but then act like because they were cut away talking about something that they couldn't show what happened. Ernie Irvan also hit Harry Gant under that same Earnhardt caution. 15. The pit road reporters were Charlie Harville and Ralph Sheheen. The roving reporter was Mark Pfister. And in The STP Pit Communication Center was Bob Varsha. 16. rateus posted: 04.21.2020 - 8:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Richard Petty's relief driver needed relief in this one! Petty was suffering from fatigue so Sterling Marlin stepped into the #43 but turned out to be too short to drive it properly. After a short rest Petty got back in, then stepped out again when a more suitable relief driver had been found, in the form of Hut Stricklin. https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:JkLg-h4WAhkJ:https://www.dailypress.com/news/dp-xpm-19900528-1990-05-28-9005270161-story.html+&cd=13&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk The live TV feed also lost pictures (but not sound) for about 90 minutes mid-race owing to problems with the satellite link. 17. Well, some drivers are good at some track early in their career and as they career goes, they're unable to win there again and are really thankful that they managed to win at least once there. Look at Kevin Harvick, for example - won the first two races at Chicagoland (2001, 2002) and since that, he has failed to win there again. 19. Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth again and Joey Logano would also have won additional title, if not for Jimmie Johnson and his Chase for the Cup perfection. Bad luck... 21. Ryan posted: 06.06.2020 - 1:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @18 Harvick had no business winning the 2002 Chicago race. He actually spun with about 70 laps to go that brought out a timely caution for him. He came and got four tires and fuel. Later on a caution came out with about 25 laps left when a lot of the top cars pitted for tires and fuel. Harvick stayed out where he got tires and fuel the previous caution when he spun out and was able to hold off Gordon, Stewart, JJ, and Newman. '01 was legit, '02 was pure timely luck. @20 What he was saying didn't have anything to do with the championship. He was referring to 1994, 1997, and 1998 where Rusty finished 2nd to Gordon in all three of those races. Of course the 1998 race cost Rusty a million dollar No Bull 5 bonus. The 1997 race gave Gordon his second leg of the Winston Million. He would go on and win the Winston Million with his win at the Southern 500 later on that year by bullying Jeff Burton on the last lap of that race. 22. Rusty Wallace could have more Coca-Cola 600 wins, if not for Jeff Gordon just like those drivers could have an additional championship, if not for Jimmie Johnson. And really interesting that no one gives me a hard time for bringing Kevin Harvick into the discussion. Of course, Kyle Busch is a banned name you can't mention just like Voldemort... But if it's anyone else, it's absolutely fine. 23. Chase9Fan posted: 06.06.2020 - 3:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 21, correct sir. 22. No need to argue man, just an observation is all. 24. What a save he made there with Elliott and Earnhardt going 3 wide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
