I had been out of kindergarten for about a week or two, got up one day and turned on the TV to see a black car with the number 3 going around a right hand turn. The next memory I have of NASCAR is listening to the '91 Daytona 500 on the radio in the backyard, and somebody at the cookout saying Geoffrey Bodine was a crybaby, lol. 9. The West Coast driver, sadly most notably for sharing his name with an infamous US senator, crashed in the early laps then dropped out with an oil line problem. 10. This was the first race for that deal and for the curious I looked up what Pelco is and that's not something related to VCRs or VHS tapes for home use, they are a security company for video surveillance and still in business to this day. 16. "A tire blew on Moroso's family owned Oldsmobile and he sailed over a guard rail and smashed into a chain link fence. 'I was going into a turn when a tire blew and spun me around,' said the 21 year-old freshman driver. 'The next thing I knew I was flying through the air. The car landed so far up in the sticks I don't know how we'll get it back.'" 20. Mark didn't lose the championship because of the penalty at Richmond. He lost it because Earnhardt dominated the rest of the year and took the championship away from him. 21. The Hollywood stuntman, with a filmography including "Smokey and the Bandit," gets to depart the series in style with one-off in Rick Hendrick's #18 Slim Fast Chevy Lumina normally driven by Greg Sacks. Barrett turned in a top-20 at the wheel of arguably his first competitive Cup ride since 1981. 29. In-car camera footage was shown on ESPN's pre-race coverage, with a graphic noting that the footage was courtesy of Purolator. They must have been getting in-car shots for a commercial or promotional video. In any event, there would probably have been no footage of the wreck had they not had a camera in the car. 31. 48johnsonfan posted: 12.01.2017 - 3:05 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Forth caution was for debris. 32. Dale Earnhardt's transmission broke right after the mid-way point. They got the car back out to run for points. Ricky, Mark, and Dale all had flat tires right after the first caution and had to make green flag pit stops. 37. Wallace's high-speed training here paid off with this being the first of his two trips to victory lane in NASCAR Cup series action on the California road course. 38. Perhaps Shepherd wanted a taller shifter? 39. Chase9Fan posted: 08.03.2019 - 7:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rusty's last road course will till 1996 at this track, then the last one of his career. Very road course heavy early career for Rusty then the wins dried up on road courses after that. 40. rm posted: 02.24.2020 - 9:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Richard Petty finishes within single-digit laps of the leader for the first time since Michigan, 10 months before in the August prior, a span of 21 races, 20 of which he qualified for. Unfortunately, the last years for "The King" were filled with stretches like this, and he's probably the poster child for why some drivers should hang it up before things start to get too ugly at the end of their careers. For reference: Petty had 15 DNFs in 1988, the most since 1969 when he also had 15 DNFs...in 50 races as opposed to 29. 41. Was running second at the end until Mark Martin passed him and began to quickly close on Rusty, but the final caution ended his chances of catching the 27. Martin also himself had issues, making contact with Dale Sr. on a restart early on just as Rudd had his first tire issue. 42.
