What was the story there? 7. Spen posted: 02.01.2009 - 6:06 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) It was actually sixteen years since his last start. 8. Butch would attempt and run a few more Cup races a few years after this, and found decent success in the Truck Series later on. 11. Harry Gant was about the only other driver to show much of anything but Bill did what he did best, dominated. Sadly, the 1990 season was a peek into the future of things to come for the Melling team and Bill Elliott. Melling wasn't willing to step up his investment into the team and that led to sub par performance. This led Bill to leave the team to drive for Junior Johnson. A move that would look like a great deal until Junior was caught having an affair with his wife, who then got mad at Tim Brewer for comments Brewer made, and then fired Brewer. A year of chemistry built wasted. Bill had an even worse year in 1993 than any of his previous years of full time race, and would fail to not win a race for the first time since going full time in 1983. Mike Beam and him turned around the 11 car to a degree in 1994 and picked up one win, but Bill turned down an extension from Junior, and offers from Yates and Roush to start his own team. Another mistake. Bill would go winless in his owner/driver stint from 1995 to 2000. He came close on several occasions but something always went wrong. I always thought it was amazing he finished 8th in the points twice (95, 97). His best year was by far 1997. Had some great races that year. 12. I have no idea why Dick Midgley is listed as the owner of both. 13. RaceFanX posted: 10.07.2018 - 3:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was Bill Elliott's fourth and final Cup win at Dover. As mentioned earlier it was also his last win in the famous red Coors #9 Ford...although he did pick up one more win for Melling in 1991 after the team switched to a blue Coors Light paint scheme before he left the team. 14. This would be the first season since 1983 (when Elliott won his first career race at the season finale) that he did not win multiple races. 15. Bill Elliott joined Junior Johnson's team and then Junior was caught having an affair with Bill Elliott's wife? I can't wait until I get to that season to see how the mood is in the pits! That had to be some chaotic stuff. I was so shocked I had to look it up, lol. Obviously that wasn't what happened. 16. Jeff Purvis is driving the Neil Bonnett car, car in the wall, it's the Neil Bonnett car. Neil Bonnett had to have had something to do with this car. Did he co-own it with James Finch? 17. It started a streak of races at the Monster Mile that would last through the spring 2010 event! Elliott was awesome in this race! He dominated from the start! He should have won in 1992 but a bad pit decision cost him the ability to catch and pass Rudd. He also finished second to Johnson in 2002. He needed about about 2-3 more laps to pass the #48 that day. 20. jensenators posted: 01.26.2019 - 2:24 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Updates based on TV Broadcast: SPONSOR UPDATE: Car 74- Dillon's Bus Service. He replaced Barry Dodson as Rusty Wallace's CC for the Blue Max team. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
