Nice gesture at the end of this race by Dale Earnhardt and Bill Elliott
as they both pull up beside Kulwicki to congratulate him on a well

I'm pretty sure the chassis Alan Kulwicki used in this race is the same
one he used in the 1992 Hooters 500, which he came in second and won the
championship.

I'm pretty sure this was the race where Schrader's crew misread the
distance. During the last caution he came in for a pit stop because the
crew thought it was a 500-lap race. Cost him 3 or 4 spots

Kyle Petty dominated the first part of the race, until he lost a
cylindar and ruined his day. We don't see this anymore thanks to
NASCAR's dumb gear rule.

A caution flew on lap 490 of 492. Ken Schrader's team pitted for 4 tires
and a chassis adjustment. He pitted in third place. He came out as the
last car on the lead lap in 5th place, only losing two spots. But still,
the team must've thought it was a 500 lap race.

Alan stated that he'd wanted to take another Polish Victory lap but
didn't want to get in hot water with NASCAR, so he simply took another
regular victory lap. I don't think they'd have minded, Alan! What a
great champion and tireless worker taken too soon.

This was the last NASCAR race at Rockingham that aired on ESPN, the
channel having aired races from here throughout the 1980s. The North
Carolina superspeedway's two races were among several that the
"Worldwide Leader in Sports" decided to drop from its television package
for the 1991 season and that move opened the door for The Nashville
Network to pick them up for its new TNN Motor Sports broadcasts.

Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons were the commentators. Dr.
Jerry Punch and John Kernan were the pit road reporters.
