Ken Schrader was the first of the leaders to make his final green flag stop and caught a caution while he was in the pits. He got a free 4-tire change without losing a lap. Kyle would pit for tires right after the following restart but was stuck a lap behind Schrader. He would eventually pass Schrader but was still 7/8 of a lap down with no chance of winning until a late-race caution came out in the final 15 laps. Thankfully NASCAR woke up and figured out that a pit road speed limit and only allowing lead lap cars to pit the first time by under yellow was a much smarter way to fix the pit road safety issue. 7. This race also marked the middle of a 3-year stretch in which Kyle Petty dominated a Rockingham race. He led 433 laps in his 1990 win, 380 in this race and 484 in 1992. Those 3 totals are the top-3 performances for Petty in his career, in terms of laps led. 16. possum posted: 10.23.2020 - 5:58 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @15 - well, the obvious difference (other than the absense of charters) is there basically were no big teams then. Yeah, Hendrick ran two cars and Junior ran two...everyone else was a one car team, and most of them were pretty much the same in terms of size and resources (true, the likes of Jimmy Means or Thee Dixon weren't on the same page, but you could take 30 or so of the teams and not find much between them). 17.
