Hooters' driver Mark Stahl failed to qualify for all 4 races at this point in the season, much to the displeasure of the marketing executives. They discussed sponsorship with Alan and the rest is history. 14. SMIFF TV just uploaded the original broadcast of the race, up until the red flag and the call that the race will continue the next day, but, as mentioned before, ABC didn't even brother coming back to show the rest of it, but the first 50 laps or so is on YouTube. 22. Matthew Lewis posted: 06.12.2018 - 7:17 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) For some reason there are two additional DNQ's for this race according to this page: http://www.ultimateracinghistory.com/race.php?raceid=12673 #19-Cecil Eunice #79-Joe Ruttman I seem to recall talks and possible attempts of Cecil Eunice taking his Carol Levin Racing team up to the Cup Series and he is a Georgia native so this would make sense. However, Joe Ruttman drove the #75 Rahmoc car in 1991 and is in fact listed twice (once in the 75 and again as DNQ'ing in the 79) probably meaning his was a typo? 24. JSPorts posted: 06.12.2018 - 7:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ruttman drove the 75 in all 29 races in 1991, so I can't imagine he attempted the race in a different car but then ended up driving his old car anyway. 25. Matthew Lewis posted: 06.12.2018 - 8:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Correct JSPorts. I don't think NASCAR would allow a driver to attempt in 2 different cars anyway. Also, Bobby Hillin JR had "Rob Moroso Memorial" on the hood and 1/4 panels of his red #20 for Dick Moroso Racing similar to his #27 at Daytona. 26. Scott B posted: 06.13.2018 - 11:37 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "I don't think NASCAR would allow a driver to attempt in 2 different cars anyway." No, they would not in 1991. It was possible to do that in the early days. I'm not sure of the exact date this rule changed, but it was many years before this race. 27. After Trickle's third place finish at Dover in June the previous year, the wheels came off with bad luck, poor finishes and just one top ten finish from that point going forward, which happened at Richmond in September. The first two races of '91 were strong 11th and 15th place finishes at Daytona and Richmond. Then, the last two races were terrible of 29th and 28th at Rockingham and Atlanta. Lake Speed would take over the ride the following race at Darlington while Trickle would compete for AAG and Team III Racing on an part-time basis the rest of the year. 33. He would end his career with 24 poles, but only 5 wins. In fact, he twice recorded more poles in a season (6) than he had wins for his entire career - 1989 & 1992. 35. Makes you wonder how many races he could have won if he had driven for a team where he could have afforded to push the equipment 100% all the time. 36. Seems like the story of his whole career besides maybe ?92 37. RaceFanX posted: 11.21.2020 - 7:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Schrader won this race with some fuel milage gambles, stretching the gas in the #25 Kodiak Chevrolet's tanks to make it more than 70 laps on two different occasions. Bill Elliott had the opposite luck as he ran the #9 Coors Light Ford out of gas under green twice but still had the speed to make up for that and bring it home second in front of his faithful homestate Georgia fans. (We don't have footage but I found a description of how it went on a Maxx NASCAR trading card of all things. Maxx's card for this race featured Schrader and his family celebrating in victory lane but altered the picture to remove the Kodiak logo from Kenny's uniform since the cards were geared toward children.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
