Michael Waltrip definitely dominated the race and should've won, but a damn loose lugnut mader him finish 3rd. Thankfully he would come back to win Cup races. 2. phaser@cox.net posted: 10.25.2004 - 11:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Heartbreak for Michael Waltrip as he dominates this race, leading the majority of the laps and putting all but three cars, but problems on the final pit stop and he finishes third, as Ricky Rudd sneaks out with an undeserved victory. 3. Problems with an air gun in the pits -- and a thirty second pit stop relegated him to third. 4. He's won more than enough in the Busch cars and let's not forget his stirring win in the Winston from the Open in '96. He seems to always get caught up in someone else's problems, and always has had an inordinate amount of bad luck. 6. dalejrrules14 posted: 03.11.2006 - 3:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) waltrip! just couldnt be cut any slack 7. Michael also was loyal to teams that had him aboard and when drove for Bahari Racing he couldn't face Chuck Rider to tell him he wanted out. He ended up leaving in 1995. 14. Wood Brothers, past their prime. Jim Mattei/Jim Smith, lol DEI, he was in the #2 car on a team where obviously 95% of the focus was on the #8. If Dale Jr can win six races in a season and almost win a championship, you know that he is getting all the attention. MWR, yeah, you can argue that Reutimann is fighting for a spot in the Chase blah blah blah, whatever. Mikey is 46 years old and well past his prime, which he wasted riding around in middle to bottom tier rides. Sadly there are people in this world who are too stupid to see that though and I'll never change their minds so why the hell am I even typing this shit? 26. myself posted: 08.26.2009 - 11:55 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I'll answer my own question....it was McReynold's 1st race as the crew chief on the 28. 27. myself posted: 08.26.2009 - 12:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bring back Bob Jenkins & John Kernan!!!! 28. 18fan posted: 02.27.2010 - 12:42 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Waltrip should have retired after DEI let him go. If Dale Jr can win six races in a season and almost win a championship, you know that he is getting all the attention." This is total bullshit. DEI actually had a meeting in which they point blank told Waltrip that he needed to finish better. The problem wasn't with his car, it was with HIM. Statistics don't lie. In 25 years, all Waltrip has is four plate wins. Even Derrike Cope was able to win at a non-plate track, and his equipment was absolutely no better than anything Waltrip ever raced in. Besides, you cannot PROVE that they had 95% of focus. What the f**k does 95% of focus mean? That's something you came up with in thin air. But what you CAN look at is Waltrip's statistics. "which he wasted riding around in middle to bottom tier rides." He drove for so many shit teams because he wasn't that good of a driver. Good drivers move up to a better team eventually. Do you think Kasey Kahne would spend his entire career driving for shit teams? Think about it. "Mikey is 46 years old and well past his prime" He never had a prime to begin with. "Sadly there are people in this world who are too stupid to see that though and I'll never change their minds so why the hell am I even typing this shit? " Because you're a dumbass. 30. Kit posted: 04.27.2010 - 11:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "You're an idiot." Yeah, I'm an idiot for coming to a reasonable conclusion that since Waltrip could not drive worth a shit at Darlington before and after this race, and somehow in this race he was competitive to win, that his team was probably cheating. Darlington of all places. You have to KNOW how to race to win here. That's not knowledge that only exists for one race and disappears forever. 31. Jr is just a marketing machine, Hendricks knows if he keeps him near the top 10, he will sell merchendice. He does not care if he wins, he has Jimmy and Jeff for that. And since Mark would not leave to let Kasey drive this year, Mark is getting the grap Jr use to drive. Why is it when both Earnhardts would win a plate race, it is an amazing and awesome achievment? Guys, I hate to burst some of your alls bubble, but Michael Waltrip is probably the most overated driver in this history of Nascar and that's just him winning four races. He sucked and most of his achievements are because of his brother and Dale Earnhardt. Sadly, he is still making money off Dale because of his book was mainly about his small success he had and Earnhardt's crash. 40. Ricky Rudd came in second and capitalized, vaulting into the points lead with this victory and the resulting 104-point swing. NASCAR fans likely were more interested in the "Best Sound" category as that was where the auto racing film "Days of Thunder" had received a nomination however it, "Dick Tracy," "Total Recall," and "The Hunt for Red October" all lost to "Dances with Wolves" as the Kevin Costner Western won seven Oscars on the night. Costner later narrated CMT's 2009 NASCAR documentary "The Ride of Their Lives" and shared the screen with Richard Petty when the King made a cameo in 2008 film "Swing Vote." 47. There was some pit strategy involved in the outcome as Ricky Rudd was set up to take on one less pit stop than everyone else. Alan Kulwickis 2nd accident negated this advantage and closed up the field on the restart while putting everyone who already pitted under green an extra lap down. Michael Waltrips final green flag pit stop killed him as his car was clearly the fastest all day. 48. After Dick Trickle was released following the previous event at Atlanta, Lake would take over the Phillips 66 machine for the next twenty races with a best finish of eleventh at Bristol in August. Along the way, however, Lake's run with the single-car operation was rough: ten did not finishes, eight top twenty finishes and a best qualifying effort of 6th at Daytona in July. 49.
