This race started a 2-year stretch where Davey basically dominated
Michigan!

Hut Stricklin With a runner-up finish! His first of 2 in his career. The
other in the 1996 Southern 500 to Jeff Gordon

A great day for Bobby Allison, as his car finished second with Hut
Stricklin and his son Davey won. I expected big things from Stricklin
and Bobby Allison's No. 12 after this but alas, it never really
materialized.

Its great to see things haven't changed at Michigan. The races are still
snoozers just like they were back then. Only one caution and that was
for debris. The early to mid 80's racing at Michigan was great. Dont
know what happen.

I was at this race and the first half was extremely competitive. Then
Davey just took off in the second half and whooped them.

Davey Allison used the same car he had run a month ago at Charlotte for
both The Winston and the World 600 that dominated the field here, with
the same result.

Sponsor on Buddy Baker's #20 were NAPA on the hood and Valvoline on the
flanks. Car was a base blue.

They stated during the broadcast that during qualifying, Michael Waltrip
got a break with an overcast sky during his run. He had already been
solidly quick but the cloud overhead during his run is what put him over
the top for the pole.

Ironic that before the race this season at Dover where Michael Waltrip
won his first career pole, he was joking about it taking him so long to
finally win one. Then he gets his 2nd pole just 3 races later. Then he
wouldn't get his 3rd career pole until 14 years later in 2005. Never
missed a race and ran full time too between this race and his next pole.

The commentators were Ken Squier and Ned Jarrett. The pit road reporters
were Mike Joy and Neil Bonnett. The studio host was Chris Economaki.
