Irvan was caught up in a wreck not of his own making on lap 146. 3. Baker also spun Mast later in the race. 4. nascarman posted: 05.13.2006 - 9:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) davey allison broke his hand after the race by punching the side of his hauler. 5. I know the time he was talking about, but Elliott didn't really have the room to help him at the time. If he would have he probably would have hurt himself as well. 11. X-1R/Kounty Line Status update: I have to think #98 Jimmy Spencer's status is "crash", not "engine". He came to a smoky stop on the backstretch with the right side flattened as a result of the Irvan/Baker incident. The first two cautions for accidents were due to part failures, according to the drivers themselves. Wally Dallenbach, running alone at the back of the pack, said he had a tire go down that caused him to loop around and impact the Turn 2 wall. Gant's crash was due to an engine letting go and he slid into the wall from his own oil. Watching the Lap 104 crash, I am not sure Irvan is completely blameless. Baker was holding firm on the inside line going into Turn 1 and it looked like Irvan may have come down on Baker. They made contact for sure, but I'm not sure it's as simple as "Baker turned him". Rick Wilson evidently got the worst of the crash, smashing into the spinning Irvan with the front end and then getting shoved head on into the outside wall from Irvan's spinning momentum. The Lap 150 accident occurred simply as a result of Hut Stricklin trying to cut into line from the inside, only for Geoff Bodine to be fully present, sending them both into the outside wall in Turn 1. Davey Allison was not clear of Earnhardt with three to go...another foot would have done it. I can see why he was upset, only Sterling Marlin went with him to try to pass Earnhardt with Elliott and Martin also in tow. You had to know at the time your best chance to win at a plate track was to shuffle Earnhardt out. That said, the race itself was fantastic. Hard-charging racing all day, even during the long green run early in the race, the top cars stayed together and jockeyed for position basically the whole run. 21. JSPorts posted: 11.29.2017 - 3:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) An 84-lap green flag run is unlikely to ever happen at Talladega again, because the longest possible with stage racing would be the 78-lap final stage. 22. He interviewed Jimmy Spencer after he wrecked, asked if Jimmy was rooting for Sterling Marlin since they both wore toupees. Then later after Geoff Bodines wreck, he asked Geoff about rumors that Bill Elliott would replace him. Geoff gave a great response saying they are rumors, just like the rumors of Chris being with other women. Even the booth laughed, pretty funny stuff. 24. However, he wasn't really the same driver he was and didn't race but once or twice more after this race I think. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
