Harry Gant won his first of four in a row and "Life begins at 50" streak. 2. Gant also won the Winston 500 earlier that year. 6. Ryan posted: 08.28.2011 - 3:11 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It was four crown jewel events... Then Davey Allison would win it the next year and had Darlington won for the million, until Darrell Waltrip stayed out when it rained. In '93 Earnhardt won at all four of the Winston Million tracks, but won only one that counted toward the million, the 600. He should have won it in '90 if not for the flat at Daytona and finished well in the WM races in '93. 2nd at Daytona, 4th at Talladega (he was robbed in that one), and he finished 4th at Darlington, along with the win at Charlotte in the 600. 7. b4il3y posted: 08.03.2013 - 3:01 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) but #3 didnt...so it really doesn't matter :) 8. wrank fakefield posted: 02.10.2014 - 1:03 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Let the streak begin. I am from Taylorsville, N.C., which isn't much more than a dot on a map. My dad used to take me To Harry Gant's steakhouse on weekends, and we'd watch the races on the big screen tv. There isn't much reason to live or go to Taylorsville now, the furniture and textile mills that were the backbone of the local economy have suffered greatly in this era of global economics. but for one glorious month, it was a genuinely exciting place to live. I'm sure the economy got better, crime went down and school grades went up for one unforgettable september in 1991. 9. Fall - 38 in the field, with 1 DNQ, H.B. Bailey. Why could they not allow 39 cars in the fall, when they allowed 40 in the spring? 16. Lots of drivers faced PROBLEMS throughout the race, in particular many front-runners toward the end of the race. Davey Allison had a throttle issue late in the race and lost several laps while the team attempted to repair it. To that point he and Gant were the top cars in the race. Mark Martin blew an engine during the final restart of the race while running in the Top 5. Kyle Petty blew an engine with just a few laps to go, also while running in the Top 5. Dale Earnhardt was running second to Gant with 20 or so to go and had an issue described in the comment above. This wasn't at the end of the race but Ricky Rudd, second in points, impacted the spinning car of #15 Morgan Shepherd during the 7th caution, getting two wheels off the ground and damaging the right front. Rudd was able to continue, but it topped off an "off" weekend for the Tide team. Another crazy thing I just noticed considering it's Darlington, no car had to retire from the race due to crash damage. 19. I remember many moments with clarity, but looking back it makes sense that Ricky Rudd became my favorite driver. From Rudds stolen victory at Sears Point to JD McDuffies death at Watkins Glen... Dale Jarrett winning his first race while Ned was on the broadcast team... and Harry Gants unbelievable September, 1991 was quite a season and made me a solid NASCAR fan until 2001s Daytona 500. After that my favorite drivers were fading and my interest in the sport along with it. Along with it, Racing Champions began releasing replicas which I began hunting with a purpose. I spent most of 1991 disappointed that Ricky Rudds Tide car wasn't available yet. Today I probably cant name 10 drivers. 22.
