Can you imagine if ol' Harry had pulled this off in today's NA$CAR? He'd probably be fined and get disqualifed for an "illegal part" in his car. 2. But I did feeled bad for Brett Bodine, I wanted to see him win a race that was not questioned by everyone! 5. He was proven wrong! 6. Mark O. posted: 11.03.2007 - 11:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I believe this was the race that Mike Waltrip punched Dave Marcis after the race, drawing a measly $500 fine. Wouldn't be the last time... If it wasn't this race, it was the week after at Wilksboro. 7. This was also Gant's fourth win in a row, prompting him to earn the nickname Mr. September. 9. This has to be the biggest comeback year ever for a 51-year old man. 10. jessie henry posted: 12.16.2010 - 10:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 2rd best nascar race ever 11. Josh posted: 12.19.2017 - 7:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hensley always did well at Martinsville. Roughly midway through the race, Harry Gant come on the radio running second to Rusty Wallace, and said "Rusty's holding me up, guys." Petree told him to just pass him. Gant responded "Alright", and went around Wallace shortly after on the backstretch. The crash where Gant picked up the damage occurred on the first lap of a restart. Rusty dove under Gant for the lead and the two made contact in Turn 3. Gant slid backwards up the track, did not back into the wall, but Morgan Shepherd cleaned out the right front of Gant's Olds on his way by. Rusty Wallace and Derrike Cope tangled in the aftermath and both spun in Turn 4. Somewhat remarkably, Gant, Wallace, and Shepherd, all lead lap cars at the time, remained on the lead lap; Gant of course won the race and Wallace finished 7th. Shepherd would end up going a lap down later when he spun after contact with Ricky Rudd but still ended up with a decent 11th. The late great Benny Parsons on Gant's late-race charge: "This is unbelievable!" 18. It was legitimate enthusiasm in an era of a sport where thankfully the internet was not fully alive yet. 19.
