Bill Elliott, however, was recovering from the championship wound from The Big One at Daytona, which placed him 27th. ARCA graduate and Winston Cup rookie Bob Schacht finishes a season-best 19th. 4. Was it Team III or Team Sabco or was it a second Roger Penske car? 7. Stadler & Waldorf posted: 09.09.2010 - 7:20 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) According to an article in the '92 Daytona 500 program, Kenny was slated to drive for Sam McMahon's Team III, with Barry Dodson as crew chief. It goes on to say that Dodson had prepared 2 Pontiacs for speedweeks and nine additional Pontiacs for the rest of the schedule. Sponsored by Dirt Devil and GTE Cellular phones. There is even a photo of the car taken at January testing. The team must have found a great big hole and fell in it. 8. Stadler & Waldorf posted: 09.09.2010 - 7:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Further Info - Kenny ran the full Busch Series in the #36 Dirt Devil sponsored Pontiacs for SABCO, so that is probably where the team ended up, and as no time seems to be recorded for this entry, I would doubt that any car was even presented for inspection for this or any other cup event during 1992. 9. The team appeared to be all set to enter the 1992 Winston Cup Season with Kenny Wallace set to drive the car and a sponsorship agreement made with Dirt Devil. After reports of McMahon's financial problems emerged, representatives of Dirt Devil rushed to Charlotte for a meeting. They informed McMahon they were withdrawing their sponsorship of the team. They also asked him to promptly return the first installment of the company's sponsorship agreement. Kenny Wallace made the decision to return to the Busch Grand National Series and did not enter a single Winston Cup race during the 1992 season. He did run the full schedule in 1993 for car owner Felix Sabates with Dirt Devil as his sponsor. 13. Late in the race Harry Gant was leading but was losing time to Bill Elliott who was running second. With about 45 laps to go, Gant decided to come in and get fresh tires to try to run down Elliott for the win that way, since it appeared on his current tires he'd for sure end up second to Elliott at best. Gant ran a torrid pace after returning to the track with the fresh tires, as everyone else rode out the finish of the race with older rubber, but ultimately fell short to Elliott. Alan Kulwicki was running third with ten to go and blew an engine. For several laps prior to the detonation, he had been pulling to the inside on the straightaways when he was behind traffic, presumably trying to get fresh air to the evidently overheating motor. 18. The Darlington Busch race broadcasters talk about how Kyle Petty and Felix Sabates helped Kenny get a Busch team together literally days before the season started when he found out he wasn't going to get to run Cup. Felix Sabates actually owned Kenny's Busch team/car in 1992. Spring races by the way and they talked about it some in the other broadcasts too. 19.
