Amazingly he landed on all fours and didn't tumble. 2. mcmurrayfan posted: 06.14.2006 - 10:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Last race for Buddy Baker. 3. Was really amazed at how fast the cars came by the grandstands. The fans at Talladega infield really know how to party. 5. Its as far as he would get. 7. myself posted: 02.13.2007 - 8:39 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Wow! Allison, Elliott, Earnhardt, Marlin, and Irvan are five of the very best restirctor guys of all time. 9. On the last lap, going into turn 3, Dale Earnhardt drove to the outside of Bill Elliott with Ernie Irvan in tow but could go any further. Elliott finished ahead of Earnhardt by a few feet. Earnhardt was ticked off at Ernie Irvan and said so in post race interviews(something about not working with him to beat the Fords, who won their 9th consecutive race to start the season, which is, correct me if I'm wrong, a modern era record). 11. Bill moved up the track at the last second. and Dale was on the outside of Bill and Dale moved up, losing Irvan's help. Bill finished 2nd by about 3 inches. This helped him in his quest for the championship! 14. myself posted: 08.26.2009 - 2:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This was a great race to watch! 15. Davey Allison drove a great race and the Texaco team provided him a dominant Ford. This win represented the peak of Allison's final full season in NASCAR. After Talladega, the injuries and terrible crashes started happening. Allison was one of the key players that made the 1992 Winston Cup points race one of the most memorable in NASCAR history. 25. Evan posted: 12.08.2013 - 4:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Davey Allison wins the Winston 500 in the same car that he won Daytona in, back then you did not have to give your car away to Daytona USA(in fact Dale Jarrett was driving a Yates car when he won the 1996 Daytona 500, so Yates did get his car in Daytona USA for a year in 1996 and later the year 2000. Proof of this was when Davey's 1992 car was auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson a few years ago, along with Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Budweiser car that won the Million Dollars at Talladega in 2001 in the same auction event. Yates stated that the car won Daytona and Talladega. The car also came with Davey's driver's uniform and Daytona 500 trophy(It was not the Harley J. Earl back then) But that sure was a strong race car, along with 8 car, too. 26. Bramblegrunt posted: 09.14.2016 - 10:34 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) A largely uneventful race with a brilliant last 8 laps. The race was mostly dominated by 5 cars, 4 Fords (Allison, Elliott, Marlin and Shepherd) and the 1 Chevy of Earnhardt. For good portions of the race the 5 of them just stunk up the field leaving everyone else in their dust. But after Jimmy went for his incredible near flip, it put them right back together and Irvan got in there to try to break up the Fords and set up a hair-raising Talladega signature finish. Gant, the defending champion of this race, missed an opportunity to go to the windtunnel with his Olds and it showed, he was never a factor and went multiple laps down Shepherd should have finished in the top 6 but on the penultimate lap he and Marlin banged sides and Shepherd lost all his momentum and he eventually got swallowed up by the 2nd pack to finish 9th 27. Sean posted: 09.14.2016 - 11:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Having just watched this race recently, I agree it was uneventful and extremely hard to pass. It was clear Marlin had the fastest car but couldn't make it back just because no one could pass anyone. I imagine the summer Talladega race which had only 3 cars on the lead lap despite no major wrecks was similar. However...I kind of wish plate racing were more like this than what it became from 2000-present, since I think the drivers and teams played more of a role in it back then. Jarrett, Marlin, and Irvan for instance were competitive on plate tracks no matter what they were driving for a variety of different teams, etc... Separation in the pack and fewer cautions in most races in general allowed for the top teams to tend to dominate them and decide things between themselves, which is something I appreciate. 28. Josh posted: 03.25.2018 - 4:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Charlie Glotzbach had a decent run going, but almost midway through the race, his car broke loose alongside King Richard coming out of Turn 2, and instead of admitting defeat and getting the car wound down, Charlie tried to save it, and ended up heading back to the left and nosing into the inside backstretch wall at probably around 150 mph after sliding through the grass trying to get it righted. Ricky Rudd had been running with or at least near the Top 5 all day when he suddenly pulled out of line, slowed, and hit the Turn 2 wall with the right rear quarter panel due to a flat right rear tire. Fortunately, Rudd had been running with the lead pack that was very far ahead of the second pack, so it was only a single car accident. 29. As NASCAR felt the infraction was unintentional, they simply moved him to last car on the lead lap. 31.
