Going into the final pitstop under the green flag, Earnhardt entered the pits in third and came out first even though his pitstop was no faster than Petty and Allison's leading the two to figure he must have sped. Either way, Earnhardt won. 2. Josh posted: 05.02.2005 - 10:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Allison drove a backup car in this race. His primary car, 007, which was a dominate car in 1992, was destroyed in a last lap crash across the start/finish line with Kyle Petty in The Winston the weekend before. 3. Not sure why he didn't try to take some tires from teams who had fallen out of the race. 8. biffle16 posted: 04.30.2007 - 12:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Dale Earnhardt wins in his 400th start. 9. wreckinisracin posted: 08.16.2007 - 6:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) lmao 'no tires' haven't seen that in a while i miss the old NASCAR.. 10. Ford took the circuit by storm in the 1992 season, winning every race until the Coca-Cola 600. The Chevy fans were yelling "Fordbuster" after Earnhardt won. 16. No, I'm not really interested, but since you brought it up you shouldn't be allowed to post on here anymore for not having him numero uno. You mention those drivers and tracks and they ALL had more superior cars at those tracks than Dale ever did. He didn't win enough at Daytona? What planet are you from? He won 34 total races there and should have had more points race wins there if not for awful freak luck. At all those tracks you mentioned he had good avg finishes, too. Daytona- 10.7 (34 top 10's) Dover- 12.1 MIS- 12.6 Rock- 11.4 Pocono- 14 (Had 7 engine failure early in his career there) Not to mentioed he was a very underated road course racer. It's listed here as #61. Can anyone find a picture of this car? There were a couple of obvious instances of the tire negotiating during the race. Kyle Petty put on blue wheeled tires mid-race from his father The King's team and Ernie Irvan ended up with some of the 30 team's bright yellow wheels as well. 30. At the end of the race, Terry Labonte crossed the line just before Earnhardt took the checkered, and there were no other cars in between them. I think Kulwicki may have finished a lap down. 31. Joshua posted: 01.03.2019 - 12:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 33 Ricky Mudd I believe it had something to do with the cylinder heads NASCAR mandated for 1992. It took the GM teams some time to get used to them and get back up to speed. It affected all the GM teams; I believe this is one reason why the 1992 entry lists were shorter than normal the first half of the season; some of the smaller/part time teams decided to skip some races to get it sorted out. Another frequent commenter may be able to provide more and/or better information than I can, though. 35. Jimnsimforever posted: 01.23.2019 - 6:05 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) @3 Jimmy Means legitimately blew his engine 8 laps in. You could see the smoke pouring out. He was one of the best of the very low budget owner/drivers at babying a car with poor equipment to a finish ahead of the attrition and this 600 was right in Jimmy Means wheelhouse for a 15th to 20th place finish, like Dave Marcis did in this race, and the money that comes with it. The attrition level was always unreal in the 600. I'll guarantee you he was devastated from missing out on one of his potential best purses of the year in a year where he had trouble finding a sponsor. 36. Additionally, they're showing a current running order at the same time which confirms the #32 of Randy Porter is running in 39th. https://youtu.be/VWzT84vbDJY?t=3898 39. Joshua posted: 06.09.2020 - 9:03 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) There's a reason both the Coca-Cola 600 and the Southern 500 are run at night now. I could not imagine sitting outside in North Carolina in late May or outside in South Carolina on the first of September in 90-95 degree heat with the high sun. Those changes were made in 1993 and 2004, respectively (Southern 500 run during day, but in November before moving to May at night for a decade), so it definitely wasn't the soft millennials that thought it was no longer a good idea. Same with the second Talladega race moving from late July to mid-October. 45. This came after the slew of axle failures associated with 5 teams deciding to run 2.5 degrees negative rear camber at Martinsville. (Of course I don't think this rule really affected anything until they went to another short track.) 50. Made some crucial mistakes on the final lap though costing him a chance at the win. (He did have a chance at the bump 'n run about 3 laps before that) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
