Rookie Jimmy Hensley scored his first Top 10 on a track that was more than a mile long. His previous Top 10s were at Martinsville and at Dover. Mark Thompson finished 39th in his only major NA$CAR start. 3. Steve posted: 11.27.2006 - 8:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) nice top 10 for jimmy hensley 4. Within a couple of years, shifting became the norm at Pocono. 12. Ryan W posted: 07.31.2013 - 4:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Bobby B I'm sure he did. He revolutionized a lot of different things in Nascar. Especially the business like approach to everything. ESPN also covered his championship race. 13. He came into Pocono trailing then leader Davey Allison by 28 points. Dale would go on to suffer engine failures at Daytona, Talladega, and Martinsville. He also finished over 100 laps down at North Wilksboro, not sure if that was engine related. But that race was run without caution, not sure what led to the poor finish. But this race breaks up the 3 car 5peat 14. Josh posted: 06.16.2016 - 1:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Lot of field fillers for this one. Both Jerry Hill and Jerry O'Neil! Mike Potter 20th! I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's his best career NASCAR finish. 15. However this was his best finish in five years; impressive for his Buick to go the 500-mile distance when the likes of Earnhardt and Gant could not. 16. Josh posted: 04.10.2018 - 4:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mark Martin and Alan Kulwicki may have been neck and neck for best car in this one, but Mark Martin had a loose wheel after a pit stop. Luckily he realized it after Steve Hmiel had fallen off of the car telling Mark about it, and Mark backed up into his stall to have the problem corrected. However, he lost a lap doing that, and it wasn't until the Jarrett caution until he got it back. He was able to recover and finish all the way up in 2nd, behind Kulwicki. Bill Elliott took on only two tires for track position on the final pit stop and it helped him score a 3rd place finish after emerging with the lead after the pit stops. He, Martin, and Kulwicki put on a good show for the lead in the final few laps, which included Kulwicki going wide in Turn 3 after trying to lap by James Hylton in the outside lane. 19. @Statscrash posted: 10.18.2018 - 11:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The first of what has become 3 career cup starts for Mark Thompson, his next was the 2017 fall Talladega race and then the 2018 Daytona 500. 20. This would be Schrader's only pole of the season. 21. Shatner found time to stop by the track during the period where he was working in Punxsutawney, PA on a play based on his novel "Believe." This was Shatner's first time at a NASCAR race and the man who once speed through the streets as "T.J. Hooker" and warped through the galaxy in "Star Trek" joked he instantly understood how NASCAR was getting much more popular in this era. Dr. Jerry Punch interviewed Shatner during the race and jokingly asked "Captain Kirk" if he could beam Earnhardt to the front of the field. Shatner responded that he wished he could. Earnhardt eventually blew an engine and finished down the running order. 22.
