Once he lost two laps from being stuck in the mud (race was run Monday after rain Sunday). 2. Their last one was in 1969, although they came close in 1985 (14 wins each for Ford and Chevy) and in 1991. 6. ericthenau posted: 11.29.2011 - 4:54 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This was also the race that Michael Waltrip hit Dave Marcis after he and Hut Stricklin were involved in a wreck with Marcis in turn 3 on lap 363. Waltrip was fined $500 by NASCAR for hitting Marcis in the mouth and cutting Marcis's lip open while Marcis was strapped in his car. 7. He had already one victory for the team in the Busch Clash back in February. 9. I agree if kyle hadn't of had all the problems he had he'd have won this race easily. The amazing thing is all the cautions this race had. Yet at one point they had like a 150 to 200 lap run under the green. Than they had one caution after another. This race was also delayed 2 to 3 hrs on Monday due to rain. It looked like at one time they were not going to be able to run on Monday either. 10. nascarman posted: 01.17.2017 - 8:11 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) On July 12, 1992, Bobby Allison told a crowd that he wanted to return to Cup racing at this event. His plans were derailed when Clifford died. http://racing-reference.info/showblog?id=2887 11. My guess is he wouldn't have been very competitive, as he was 55 at the time and hadn't raced in 4 years. But who knows. It's another great NASCAR "what if?" 12. RaceFanX posted: 08.27.2017 - 3:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Allison did come back and race in the infamous Fastmasters series for older racers at IRP in 1993...the one that tore up a fleet of brand-new, ultra-expensive Jaguar XJ220s at IRP. The 31-car starting grid for this race was the smallest of 1992 yet it tied for the year's highest caution total. 13. letmeby posted: 10.22.2018 - 10:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Some fun hijinks during the rain delay by the great TV crew of Benny, Ned and Bob. 14. Nobody was better at that than those three. 15. Even after this race gaining nearly 90 points to 191 points back and jumping into 3rd he said he was a long shot for the championship and a good goal for their team would be to finish 2nd or even 3rd in the points and maybe win another race would be a great accomplishment for the team. Talk about a crazy ending to a season. Man how I wish they wouldn't have changed the point system in any of the 3 series. 16. Brett posted: 11.22.2020 - 8:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Davey Allison had a good run going for the first 450 laps or so and was in the top 5 late in the race, despite a spin around the 3/4 distance point that also involved Rusty Wallace and Kyle Petty*. *This was the incident that resulted in Kyle getting stuck in the mud down in turns 1 and 2 and losing two of the laps that he later made up But failing brakes, coupled with an incident with Derrike Cope, cost him multiple laps late in the race, ultimately dooming him to a 16th place finish. Alan Kulwicki was also involved in several incidents on the day, including a spin of his own around lap 400 that did not cause a caution. But unlike Allison, Kulwicki was able to stay on the lead lap and grind his way to a top 5 finish. He also was the only one of the top 4 in points to lead a lap on the day and gain 5 bonus points. Bill Elliott did not have a good race. He was already several laps down when his engine let go around the 150 lap mark. Neither did Harry Gant, who struggled all day long and was never competitive. 19. The coward did the same thing at Michigan to Lake Speed a few years later. Marcis was almost a senior citizen and Waltrip was 29. 20.
