My dad got me out of my 2nd grade class early to go to it. It was caution free as the only spin I can remember was Darrell Waltrip spinning on one of the pace laps. Another in a string of poor performances for Bill Elliott which led to Alan Kulwicki winning the title. 7. I guess everyone just wants to get the heck out of town. The next caution free race, the aforementioned '97 Dega race, was postponed by an entire weekend. Floridaman, it is funny you mention that. My Dad also let me skip school so we could go to this race. I always thought that was really cool. I also remember him leaning over me at about Lap 350 and saying "I can't believe there haven't been any yellows". Very rare to see on a short track. Especially considering a year and a half earlier we went to this track and they had SEVENTEEN cautions in a race that took about 50 minutes longer to run. 8. It certainly was awesome to get out of school early to go to a race, even if there wasn't a lot going on during it and my driver (Elliott) had a horrible race. It turned out to be my only trip to North Wilkesboro, so I am very happy we went. Wish I could say the same for Rockingham! To this day I am astounded that there were no cautions. I guess only having 32 cars running helped a bunch. 9. Ryan W posted: 07.31.2013 - 4:16 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Second straight Monday win for Bodine 10. Mark Martin I think actually had a slightly better car but because he started the race in the middle of the pack and the race went green the entire 400 laps, added to the fact Bodine had perfect pit stops compared to Martin having a couple of mistakes, kind of ruined any chance Mark had to win. Geoff obviously did have a dominate car though, but I wonder if he wins if there are cautions. Also, Ford clinched the manufacturers championship for the first time in the modern era and first period since 1969 in this race. 11. If you're asking about afterwards, one that sticks out is the Mellow Yellow 500 at Charlotte in 1993. Ernie Irvan leading 328 of 334 laps in his sixth race with Robert Yates Racing. 12. Geoff Bodine absolutely DOMINATED to get his second win in a row though Mark Martin was closing at the end. 13.
