Others involved included Mark Martin and Jimmy Spencer. Sterling Marlin looked pretty dominant until he got handling problems. There was also nice battle for 2nd between Kyle Petty and Davey Allison until both cars touched and got sideways. 7. Jeff Gordon's crash also resulted in a pretty big fire when he backed it into the wall in turns 1 & 2. 9. adamal82 posted: 02.11.2009 - 2:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Because of the crash and his last place finish, it is the smallest purse of Jeff Gordon's career at $4,180. After taking an early backseat to Sterling Marling, who led almost half the event but suffered from ill-handling in the late going. Geoff Bodine and Ernie Irvan crashed on the first lap, involving Mark Martin as well. Gordon also crashed hard early but the race ran green for a long strech during the middle stages while Marlin was in command. Earnhardt broke the track qualifying record in this event but it came during second round qualifying. 11. This is probably the first time he'd ever crashed out-hard in NASCAR Winston Cup. 12. Doc posted: 04.01.2010 - 3:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Another case of bad luck for Sterling. He would've run the race if it had been the 22 Maxwell House Ford or the 4 Kodak Chevy... Both those cars were better rides than the Stavola Bros. car... Really, that man had some of the worst luck until he finally got the monkey off his back. 13. 18fan posted: 07.09.2010 - 1:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rick Mast's 100th Cup start. 14. At one point Ricky Rudd tried to follow Morgan in the high line but couldn't do it. 16. Both were killed in racing accidents in the early 2000's. 18. Brian S. posted: 07.12.2016 - 9:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jimmy Means sponsored by Hurley Limo. He just said the contact maybe had severed his brake line, he said his foot went full on to the floor in the corner with no response. He said he pumped the brakes once more where it responded and he could spin it and back it into the wall. Was it the Speedy Dry? Was it the brake line? Its unknown but the end result was the same, really hard contact to the wall. He would return to the race for a few laps before calling it a day solidifying last. 20. Neither driver hit the wall or anything else, nor went around. Both drivers continued and there was no caution. 22. The thing that really turned this team around in 1993 was the work they put in on the pit stops. They didn't have anyone on their crew older than 35 and got all of them on a stringent workout routine. During the 93 season, Rusty Wallace's pit stops were a full 2 to 3 seconds faster on average than the next best crew. What a huge advantage that is and they might be the first to really concentrate on their crew being more physically fit to be able to perform faster pit stops by doing it in the gym as well as practicing. 23.
