Davey Allison radioed his crew to say that "some idiot was running around in the track" NASCAR threw the yellow and got the man to safety. He was not injured. 2. Kinda makes you wish they had splattered him, it would serve him right. Maybe he just wanted to get closer to the drivers... 9. Juicebox posted: 04.24.2009 - 2:19 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Kyle Petty dominates for his only win of 1993. Earnhardt and Martin swapped the lead early before Dale developed handling problems and a nagging oil leak that cost him a lap. A drunken spectator ran across the track in the middle of the race right in front of the leaders. Independant driver Trevor Boys, in a car owned by James Hylton, leads a lap...something Bill Elliott had yet to do in 1993. 16. Except, Dave and Kyle would be okay because it had a roof. Problem is, they would be out of the race, one of those two. 17. This came as a result of Allison's crash during the July '92 race. 20. He was inebriated at the time and gave no motive. He was charged with: Arson endangering a person (First degree felony, carries a maximum of 20 years in prison, he received this charge because he could have caused a fiery crash) Risking a catastrophe (Third degree felony, carries a maximum of 7 years in prison) And the following misdemeanors: Persistent disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, public drunkenness, defiant trespassing He was facing 32 years in jail for all of this (I'm assuming that that includes the misdemeanors, as the maximum sentence for any misdemeanor is one year). I have no idea what he was actually sentenced to in the end, but he is free today. 21. Jimnsimforever posted: 02.07.2019 - 1:26 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Really kind of surprises me he spent over a year in jail. I guess it would depend totally on who the person was. Too many factors. If it was an "idiot" who was drunk, did he have a record? If that's the case, over a year in jail plus maybe house arrest, then probation sounds right. If it's someone with mental disabilities, then some different arrangement would've been more appropriate. If no explanation was given, maybe he was going through some rough times and was thinking of ending it. Who knows, too many factors to pass judgement on him or call him an idiot and wish for him to be splattered without knowing the exact circumstances. The only thing I know for sure is the guy wasn't from a rich family or he would've been bailed out that day, the next at most, got a slap on the wrist and probation. 24. possum posted: 02.07.2019 - 6:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @20 - the arson charge was because he set a fire in the woods outside the track, not because he could have caused a crash (he claimed he was lost and needed to signal for help). @23 - the year may have been served in rehab. Some jurisdictions count time in rehab as time served on a sentence. 25. Jimnsimforever posted: 02.12.2019 - 9:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Oh, ok, it sounds like the guy definitely either had serious issues then, or a very creative mind when it came to coming up with explanations for crazy behavior while on some kind of drug. As for the over a year in jail comment from me, I was just going by what @22 said. 26. Joshua posted: 03.17.2019 - 1:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kerry Teague's black #29 Chevrolet Lumina was sponsored by Kanawha Insurance on the hood. Marcis ended up with a hood sponsor for the race. Enck's Catering. Lancaster, PA was also seen on the rear quarter panels. Gordon crashes when he tried to get in line in front of Hut Stricklin, but Stricklin bumped him and sent him around into the Turn 3 wall. Late caution made Kyle Petty work for it. He started 5th on the final restart after a few guys didn't pit or stayed out on the final caution, but charged back through the field to pass Sterling Marlin and bring it home for the win. 27. That stretch from Sonoma (after the Dega crash) to Pocono cost Rusty the title that year. Crying shame. 29.
