But alas the race came down to fuel and his thrice tru the field runs (crappy pit stops) went for not. 2. myself posted: 02.14.2007 - 2:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This is the race that Davey Allison entered 2nd in the points & was wrecked my Rick Wilson early in the event. During an interview while his crew was fixing his car, Davey called Wilson "stupid" & an "idiot." Sounds like a pretty accurate description of Rick Wilson to me! 3. spencer posted: 02.24.2007 - 2:23 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I have to agree with AllisonFan above about how dominant Martin's car was this day. I believe he had a 16 second lead with about 9 laps to go. He delayed pitting until the last possible moment and ran out of fuel between 1 and 2 and coasted to the pits. It would have been interesting to see if he could still have won with a splash and go at the end but I think his lead wasn't big enough. Another Martin disappointment. 4. James W. Rudd uses fuel strategy to pick up his only win of '93. Martin and Earnhardt were involved in a practice crash that had Martin fuming the day before the race. 7. Those four dominated and swept the final 16 races of the season. 12. Martin's bad luck continued from 1991 til this date, he always seemed to have fantastic cars and disappointment happens towards the closing laps. The announcers even said at one point in the closing laps "Martin has this one won unless something mechanical happens" and its almost that moment you realize that uh oh...something probably will happen, wont it? And it did. Rudd, Gordon and Jarrett played the cards right and got great top 3 spots out of it 13. Jimnsimforever posted: 02.07.2019 - 2:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @13 Usually on themes like that someone will write it and perform it specifically for shows so they don't have to pay copyright costs to play a certain song on broadcasts. I've heard from unnamed sources that it was Todd Bodine on drums, Brett Bodine on acoustic guitar and Geoff Bodine shredding it on the electric guitar solo at towards the end. 15. Jimnsimforever posted: 02.07.2019 - 2:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Look at the luck of Brett Bodine in this season if you think Mark Martin's luck was bad. He was qualifying great every race and then blow an engine or get caught up in a wreck. What's weird is that team had problems with engine failures during it's entire existence up to this point at least in history and they would hire away great engine builders from other teams. I know at one point in time they hired Earnhardt's engine builder away from them. At this point in time they had Ernie Elliott as their engine builder, but no matter who they got, they were cursed. 16. possum posted: 02.07.2019 - 6:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @15 - back in that era if someone qualified well and had a lot of engine failures, there was no luck about it - they were choosing to tune for power and not for reliability, and lots of engine failures was expected. Especially if a team had a driver considered only "fair to middling" giving him some extra power and hoping it held together was seen as the best approach. 1993 is probably about the time Bernstein lost interest in the team, too, which wouldn't have helped anyone's motivations to make a reliable motor. By '95 no-one on the team really gave a damn, and they folded at the end of the year. 17.
