Earnhardt just about lost the race on the last lap coming out of turn two but he was able to gather up the car and hold off the field to win. 4. Schrader and Papa Joe Hendrick(the team owner) were initially suspended for four races, but that ban was lifted. 5. myself posted: 02.14.2007 - 2:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Couple of points of interest about this race: 1-Davey Allison's final race @ Daytona....a place where he won twice. 2-After the race, Ernie Irvan was quoted as saying, "In all these years, he (K.Schrader) still hasn't learned how to pass Earnhardt. I'm sure he never will." 6. Ken Schrader made a charge from the back after being penalized by Nascar for an illegal carburetor. Sterling Marlin led a portion of the middle stages of the race and nearly got his first win as Earnhardt almost wiped out off turn 2 in front of the entire field on the final lap. 12. Ned Jarrett mentioned nobody has ever won a race from a provisional starting position and today Schrader has a great chance do that. I've already researched it and wondering ..does anyone else know first time this happened? 31. chevyfan98 posted: 02.01.2017 - 11:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm thinking maybe Elliott Sadler at Bristol in 2002? 32. Kyle Petty won at Dover in 1995 after starting 37th but that wasn't a provisional position at the time. 33. Little surprised he only had 3 points cup wins at Daytona 34. Ryan posted: 05.27.2018 - 7:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @33 No driver at any other race had worse luck than Dale Earnhardt in the Daytona 500. He got 2nd five times and in '80, '90, and '91 he got 5th when he was capable of winning those three as well if that tells you anything about him and the 500. He also ran out of gas in '86 when he was in great position to win. As a matter of fact he lead most of the 400 mile race in '86 but crashed out late, which was his last crash caused by himself for a while until Michigan of '94 or '95 He had some solid runs in the 400 mile race. In his first six races at Daytona he finished in the top-8. He finished 7th in the 400 mile race in 1978 for under funded team Will Cronkite. 24 out of his last 29 races he finished in the top 10 at Daytona. Remarkable. His last race he was credited with 12th when was running 3rd until his fatal crash. 35. @Statscrash posted: 11.09.2018 - 7:37 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Man bad day to be a Jimmy.
