Ouch. 4. WOW! posted: 01.07.2007 - 9:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Geoff Bodine blew up while leading. Greg Sacks had a top 5 car but had a left front wheel come off after a green flag pit stop while running second. 5. And he was 10th, imagine that. ;) 7. Anonymous posted: 06.22.2007 - 7:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Geoff Bodine blew up while leading." This was the first, but far from the last time, he blew up while running up front with a strong car in '94. 8. This race was the first sign of what kind of career Jeff Burton would have. 9. JarrettFan44 posted: 08.22.2007 - 5:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Geoff Bodine's 1994 DNF count number 2 10. Acoording to the videos being posted on YouTube from this race, they also say Danny Sullivan attempted this race (likely in his same #99 from Indy), but failed to qualify. 12. A piece of debris from his car flew up and smashed Bill Elliott's windshield; the onboard camera clearly showed it. There's a video of it on Youtube. 15. He was very quick in practice and he was going for the pole when he wrecked on his qualifying run. The team had no provisionals and likely didn't have a back up car either. I remember the interview Buddy gave after his qualifying crash. 22. OldSchoolNASCARFan posted: 08.14.2015 - 10:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Greg Sacks had a awesomely fast car in this race!!! Way better than 7th but while running 2nd, left pit road & the front tire came off! Had to back it up to his pits, while the crew put the tire back on severely damaging the front of his car. Still Sacks battled back from 25th enroute to a top 10 ..he had a rocketship!! Just imagine what he could've done without the wheel falling off under green conditions 23. Bobby Hillin during the weekend practiced Chesrown Motorsports' car but it didn't help Rick Carelli to qualify for the race. After Atlanta Carelli was the only driver among those who declared full-time campaigns who failed to make the field in first four races of the season. Mike Wallace's first race for Donlavey Racing. In the round one of qualifying he posted 48th time because of a faulty engine, then he crashed in the second round thus making his new team to use a second provisional in a row. As a result Wally Dallenbach was bumped from the field. For the first time since 1989 a Petty Enterprises car missed consecutive races. Dallenbach was so discouraged he even offered to step aside after Atlanta. What probably saved Wally's job was the decision to let Kyle Petty practice the car before the second round of qualifying. Kyle reported the same problems as Wally did even after he tried different setups. 24. 28DaveyAllison28 posted: 01.07.2016 - 10:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Greg Sacks had one the fastest cars in the field all day, running 1st or 2nd when on a green flag pit stop, he left his pit only to have one the front tires fall completely off. The Jasper Engines crew ran down to the car, struggled pick the car up loosing nearly 2 laps in the process. Somehow, managed to roar back to finish 7th 25. Ever since they started televising this race live flag-to-flag in 1986, ABC used mostly their Indy Car crew with a NASCAR commentator also thrown in the booth. In 1986-87 it was Jim Lampley and Sam Posey in the booth. 1988 had Keith Jackson and Dr. Jerry Punch, and from 1989 until 1992 (they didn't televise the race in 1993 because of the postponement) it was Paul Page, Bobby Unser, and Benny Parsons. Ned Jarrett never joined Bob and Benny on ABC because of his contract with CBS. 26. 28DaveyAllison28 posted: 12.26.2016 - 7:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Buddy Baker had a lightning fast car all weekend, fast enough to sit on the pole. However, durning qualifying he pushed it too far and crashed hard in turns 3 & 4 resulting in a DNQ never getting another opportunity again 27.
