This was the first 400 mile race at Darlington.

Technically, it wasn't the 1st 400-miler, but it was the 1st race since
they cut the spring race from 500.

Another note is that this was Dale Earnhardt's final win at Darlington.

Rusty definitely spun. He kicked up some marbles and my dad got hit in
the head with one of them. He was alright though; wanted to keep the
chunk of tire as a souvenir but couldn't find it.

Jeff Burton's #8 Raybestos Brakes Ford would not fire up at the start of
this race, he crashed in practice and the team never got a chance to get
the car back on track before the pace laps. The Stavola Brothers crew
hurried to fix the car and pulled it off, starting the car just as the
field took the green so Burton essentially took the green flag from pit
road.

This was the first NASCAR Winston Cup race of 1994 to be televised on
ESPN (CBS, TNN, TBS, and ABC did the first four races respectively).

Post race coverage was really funny. Earnhardt was all smiles and told
Jerry Punch: "Hey, it was just 400 miles" while Mark Martin after
finishing second was barely catching his breath.

This race definitely had many non cautions that would have been cautions
in today's day and age. Rusty Wallace walloped the wall, Greg Sacks
likewise did the same, Bobby Hamilton totally destroyed a rear tire. No
cautions thrown for any of them.

I was watching a replay of this race in 1997. Near the end of the race
Harry Gant was as fast as Earnhardt Sr. but he was a lap down.

The commentators were Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons. The
pit road reporters were Dr. Jerry Punch and John Kernan.
