One lap after the restart,Jimmy Spencer sent Terry Labonte for a spin into the outside wall, and that wreck involved at least 12 cars, problably 14 or more. And like 2004's spring race, there was an incident in this race that saw fans throwing cans onto the track, Geoff Bodine hit the wall hard because of the debris, and was uninjured because he was in the high line,if he had been down low he problably would've been injured. 3. Earnhardt made a daring pass inside of Spencer to grab the lead with a few laps left and was able to hold off Spencer, Schrader, Waltrip and Irvan for a great win. 4. They went side by side into turn three, but then Michael Waltrip went for it and rocketed on the outside into the lead three wide. Earnhardt managed to hold him off, and at the white flag everyone scattered. Ernie Irvan got up to second but needed more time. Classic superspeedway racing, some of the best ever seen. 6. For some reason, I recalled seeing Mark's Valvoline car wrecked in the infield. I would love to see this race sometime. They should put it on ESPN Classic. Chicago, I can just imagine your description of Spencer cutting through the grass to get by lapped cars, determined to get the win when the opportunity was right there. Classic Jimmy Spencer. It's also cool that Dale dedicated the win to Neil and to the world renowned auto racing legend Ayrton Senna. The greatest stock car racer ever (no offense to King Richard Petty) paying tribute to the greatest open-wheel racer ever. 7. On the last lap, Earnhardt was leading at the end of the backstretch with Ken Schrader and Michael Waltrip side by side when Ernie Irvan made a daring 3 wide pass going into turn 3 for 2nd place. 9. Earnhardt himself in victory lane said he didn't know what Spencer was thinking. Also, this race has been on ESPN Classic before and I recorded in on tape. 19. He won earlier that month at the July Daytona race and his car got some long looks at the post race tear down. The car never performed again like it did with the special intake. Junior soon sold the team after securing Brett Bodine as the next year's driver. Loy Allen never lived up to his expectations after getting the pole at Daytona. I got to meet Jeff Gordon at the pre race hospitality area. Man, he is a little dude. 23. Love Earnhardt but it would have been cool to see Michale Waltrip win this race in the Pennzoil 30 pontiac for Chuck Rider. Watching the satellite feed of this race, Dave Marcis was running side by side battling for 6th place with 15 laps to ahead of drivers like Ernie Irvan. I always pulled for Marcis but never remember him running that strong in this race until I just watched it on YouTube at https://youtu.be/C-yUlCSMz2g 33. The 1994 provisional system was simple: the last two spots in every field went to the two teams highest in points not yet qualified. The 31 was five positions ahead of the 52 in owners points after Martinsville. 34. It virtually went unnoticed but it was clearly more dangerous than Jeff Gordon's 1999 Daytona 500 move for the lead. Immediately after Spencer's horrific move, Michael Waltrip came so close to clearing Earnhardt for the lead nearly clamming his first career win in the Chuck Rider owned 30 Pennzoil Pontiac which would've been very cool 37. If you watch the raw satellite feed, you can see it after ESPN goes to break after Geoff Bodine's caution early on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
