Rookie Joe Nemechek scored his first Winston Cup Top 10 (7th). Michael Kranefuss' first start as an owner ended early, as his driver Robby Gordon was spun by Rick Mast into the wall. ARCA veteran Tim Steele made the first of his 5 disastrous Winston Cup starts sustituting for the injured Chuck Bown. He was later replaced by Derrike Cope after Tim failed to qualify at Indy. 2. mcmurrayfan posted: 06.20.2006 - 4:39 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Dale Earnhardt scored his 300th career top 10. 3. Turn 3 that weekend was especially treacherous, with no less than 6 or 7 wrecks over there between the ARCA and Cup races. 4. Buddy Parrott went tumbling down pit road during the whole thing. Rusty drives through all the lead lap cars and gets by Earnhardt with three to go! 8. myself posted: 08.17.2009 - 12:14 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I remember this race. 9. 18fan posted: 06.25.2010 - 4:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Parrott tumbled as he was holding on to the car spraying ether into it and fell when the car started up. 10. (Penske owned MIS at the time) This was also the third and final Cup series pole for Loy Allen Jr, all of them came in his 1994 rookie season. Of those races where he won the pole this was the only one in which he led any laps although it resulted in his worst finish of the three (he was 24th here and 22nd in the other two). Hut Stricklin crashed twice in practice and ran this race in a car borrowed from Junior Johnson's team. The Travis Carter crew didn't have time to paint it so Hut ran this race in a red Ford instead of his usual yellow-and-purple one. The track in Turn 3 had been repaved before the race weekend and the patch started to come apart during the weekend. It caused three wrecks in the ARCA race and the track crew watered and broomed it throughout the night trying to fix the problem for the Cup race. 11. Parrott was the reason for a lot Rusty Wallace's wins because he had a veteran crew chief who knew how to give Rusty what he needed. Rusty Wallace was still THE driver of my first two seasons of watching the sport in 1993 and 1994, but no one could beat Earnhardt's consistency either. Buddy Parrott reminded me a lot of Buddy Ryan the old head coach of Philadelphia Eagles. Both tough and old school guys were leaders of their teams. Sometimes being a crew chief is like being a head coach. 15. 83andJoe posted: 09.17.2013 - 1:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #44 crew chief: Gene Roberts (same for all races this year) 16. wrank fakefield posted: 05.26.2014 - 7:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) After running out of gas and stalling the engine, Wallace rejoined the race in 12th place with 20 laps to go. Perhaps Rusty's finest driving performance of his Winston Cup career. 17. 23andJoe posted: 06.19.2014 - 11:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #44 crew chief: Tony Gibson 18. The first scene was of a one year old Jeb Burton with his Daddy, Ward. 19. NEPARacefan posted: 05.09.2017 - 6:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The last 15 laps of this race are awesome!! The style of racing at Michigan during this time was similar to that of Talladega and Daytona pre-restrictor plate. The draft mattered and there wasn't much "dirty air"... 20. nascarman posted: 07.18.2017 - 9:11 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) When this race was run, the entire country was focused on the O.J. Simpson case. A few hours after Loy Allen won the pole on Friday, Simpson went on his famous white bronco car chase. So you could say this race was kinda overshadowed. 21. Car 26 hit the wall and Cars 5, and 77 cut tires and left debris in turn 4. DRIVER UPDATE: Not sure if this would be a DC or not, during the race CBS said that Chuck Bown was at the track and ran 1 lap in practice in the 12 car. When he realized he couldn't race they asked Tim Steele to run the car. 23.
