Martin spent so much time out front he only had to make one pass on the track all day, retaking the lead from Dale Earnhardt on lap 27. This was his first win of 1994. Dallenbach's road racing skills meant he ran relatively good in this one although the 14th place result doesn't show it. He took a gamble late trying to pass Rusty Wallace for third, got off the track, and fell way back because of it. Kyle Petty spun off the course at a pretty good click at Turn 11 early in the race but his #42 Mello Yello Pontiac was saved from race-ending damage by the tire barrier he ran into, although the impact visible shook the fence he hit. Given Petty's past success at Watkins Glen another tough luck run just added to the frustration of his 1994 season. 16. Yes, Wally went slightly off course soon after the final restart, miraculously saving the car on the wet grass, but with three to go it was Rusty who went off course and coming back to the track he hit Dallenbach's right rear panel. Eventually the damage caused the tire rub and Wally lost a top-5 finish because of that. 18. He would have to wait for the finale at Atlanta to go to victory lane again. 19. Cope joined the team after a rough start to the 1994 season that saw him start the season in Cale Yarborough's Fingerhut #98 Ford before losing that ride and spending a few races driving T.W. Taylor's #02 Ford. While this first outing wasn't anything to write home about the combination of Cope and Allison's team would prove pretty solid and he stayed with the team through its dissolution at the end of the 1996 season; turning in some solid runs. Meanwhile Cope's replacement in the #98 Jeremy Mayfield, who also drove Taylor's #02 earlier in the season, ironically ends up failing to qualify. 22.
